Hey,

I'm going to delid my 6700k next week as I'd like to try and get my temps down. Got a very mild OC on it at 4.4GHz, Vcore is set to auto at the moment and it's being cooled by a Corsair H100i GTX V2. Temps are OKish while gaming but under Prime95 it can hit 91*C which is very poor.
Having a friend 3D print the tool for me to break it open safely. Will clean it all off using isopropyl alcohol.
I'm thinking of using Liquid Ultra between the die and heat spreader and then Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut between the heat spreader and block.

What sort of sealant should I use to glue it back together? Also any advice? I've watched a number of guides on youtube and read a few guides. I'm also thinking of lapping my CPU.

1.4v on the AIO should be a safe limit. Not that experienced with the skylake platform but I do know from what motherboards generally do on auto is they tend to add too many volts on the core. Or more than you need anyway. You are better setting your own voltage and test.

Incidentally if you do want to delid I cant tell you from the two cpu's I delidded I saw worthy temp reductions. kabylake netted me 20degs and ivy a fair chunk also. Personally because I like to gain as much headroom as poss and tend to rinse out as much performance as poss its worth doing if you are confident enough to do it yourself. Its very easy in theory you just need to be cautious especially using a 3d printed delid tool as it is certainly not indestructible.

Thanks. It seems to be worth it from everyone I've heard from and the guides I've seen. 4.4GHz @ 91*C is just ridiculous with an AIO cooler.
What's the base Vcore for stock settings? Just so I have an idea of where to work from.

Went into the BIOS tonight and changed it manually to 1.2 + 0.1 Offset for the overclock. Ran Prime95 and dropped about 13*C! Very happy and a bit shocked, I've been building PC's for a long time now and I always assumed Auto would just set Vcore to default.

Auto voltage will always overshoot. It'll throw too many volts at the CPU. Never ever use it. Set adaptive voltage and mess with LLC to achieve the sweet spot.

To answer your original question, you don't actually need to seal it you can simply place it back in the board and carefully close the clamp holding the IHS in position. If you would like to seal it then just grab some black gasket sealant, be sure to leave a small gap in it like the original or simply apply a few blobs as it's only job is holding it in transit/while you refit.

Expect about 10-15c off the temp but don't expect prime to run very cool because it's always going to be nudging in the 80s.

To add, you don't really need the tool either just a blade around the edges there is a lot of room around the die so it's very safe!
