6770 full specs

I expect pricing that is about the same, if not a bit lower than the cards they replace (ie 6770 for 5770 money)

People need to also appreciate the fact that usually, the price goes down a lot with cards, this hasn't happened with the 5 series which is why I suspect a lot of people are coming out with ridiculous "guesses" of prices.

If the 5 series had dropped in price to say, £70 for a 5770, £130 for a 5850 and £180 for a 5870, I highly doubt people would be saying they think the 6870 is going to be £400+ (), considering that such a price would leave no room for a 6970, it's not a sensible guess. As I've pointed out quite a few times now, the price difference between the 4 series and 5 series wasn't as big as it seemed considering the fact that they're priced in US dollars first and foremost, 5870s looked so expensive compared to 4870s because the exchange rate dropped significantly.

The dropping exchange rate is what added the £80 odd and £70 to the 5870's and 5850's prices.

If the exchange rate was the same $2/2.1:£1 when the 4 series came out, 5870s would have been £215-220 including VAT and £145-150 including VAT for a 5850. To AMD and the US market, the prices have barely changed since the 4 series. With the price drops on the 4 series, it only made the 5 series look incredibly expensive in comparison, with the 4850 and 4870 being close to half their release prices when the 5 series came out.

I think the real acid test for AMD will be (if they actually do one) the 6970 dual chip monster given that the currant 5970 is already at the PCI-E thermal envelope of 300 watts any gains from a 6970 (which will surely be 300 watts as well) will show just how much improvement can be gained from pure design.

I am interested in the HD6750 as it looks like it will use only one PCI-E power connector.

It will be surprising if the 146W 6770 has more than 1 connector. The 146 seems to be specifically aimed at the 75x2 limit. Its almost as if they didnt really want to bank on the 5850 coming in as low as 151W with their design of that PCB (which will have shared design with the 5870 one). The 6770 wont have had that problem as they have nailed down the process and know how much power is required. 1 connector definitely to keep costs down.

I hope your sources are called HP and Heinz because you've put me right off.

Hope your source is wrong because that's not tempting me away from my 480, yes you can clock a 6870 but even so I'm expecting more performance going by the 6770's specs.

Did you really think I would give you an accurate idea of performance?!

I'm not allowed to. All this speculation about performance and price points is all very good however we will never really know until the day of release.

AMD have got some special tricks up their sleeve this time around.

This is simple. What's the fastest 6 series that fits my case. Whichever card that is gets my moneys. :)

Hoping it's the HD6850, I think the 70 fitting an SG05 is wishful thinking.

They sell cards at cetain price points if they keep putting cards up because they faster in 5 years there will not be a card below 200.

I thought the 5770 were over priced to what the 48** were and i know they were eol but they were cheap for months and months and to be honest i didn't see the point upgrading from one to the other.

AMD need to stop the 460's and they willnot do that if their cards cost to much or are to slow, if they going to have 3 or 4 cards above the 460's how many cards are they making this series?.

That was down to the exchange rate dipping a lot, however I do think they should have maybe adjusted the pricing for such a situation, then again they didn't exactly need to considering how well the 5 series has sold.
