Currently have a HD 6870 - do I need to do anything special to cleanse my system of the AMD drivers or is an uninstall using CCC OK?

Not switched between red and green before without doing a new build at the same time so just checking. I usually sweep but I've been convinced not too :)

p.s. I know I'm stupid for early adopting but what the hell right? :p

If your running W7 just uninstall via the control panel, W7 can handle two sets of video drivers so even uninstalling isn't required but it is advised. However be very careful about using out of date driver sweeper tools they can cause more problems then they solve.

Definitely do NOT run any kind of driver cleaner/sweeper. Just run the ATI/AMD uninstall and it does everything for you.

Plus, that's a nice upgrade you got there going from 6870 to a 680, not stupid at all :)

Noob question, sort of related, i'm currently running on the Integrated GPU, how do I switch the inputs in Windows so it uses the 680 instead?

If your only monitor is plugged into the 680 card instead of the onboard display output then it will automatically use that anyhow. If you have one monitor connected to each then you may have to configure it through the control panel but a lot of boards will automatically disable the onboard if an addin GPU is detected.

Ah thanks, sounds simple enough, just move the HDMI cable into the GTX output port :)

Why is it suggested not to use driver sweeper?

When you Google Driver Sweeper the first link takes you to tech scumbag Gura3D's site which hosts (or used to hold) an older version of Driver Sweeper. The problem is the version of Driver Sweeper was never designed to work on Windows 7 and if you run it the application removes crucial Windows files that are required to run 3rd party video drivers. As result people have been getting hung up's, crashes are not able to use their video cards as a result, the only way to fix this from what I can remember is to reinstall Windows.

The guy who runs Gura3D says he won't host the newer version of Driver Sweeper because the newer versions collect information about your computer and send it to 3rd parties or words to a similar effect.

OK thanks.

Yeah a fairly sizeable upgrade! Ha ha.

Bought a BenQ XL2420T at the same time. Very excited as it now completes my build.

Make sure you use the dual-link dvi cable supplied with the monitor for 120hz and yeah your gaming will be awesome now.

I've never used driver sweeper and during the last 5 years i've switched between AMD/Nvidia yet no bsods or crashes all has been fine.
