680 Owners

Mal X, please fully replace the swear word in post #20.

Simply replacing some of the letters in a swearword with a * or any other character is not acceptable. If you must then please replace the whole word with ***** or other repeated character. right now i'm far more worried about my case fans, but i need to find somewhere to open a new thread, the trouble is the rest of the forum is far quieter than here..... ``case central`` might be best..

it does seem odd that Nvidia have released a new card that kicks the 680 where it hurts (another swear word removed)....mind you the 7950 is close to the 7970 as well, but not quite as close.

the 670 looks like the future, especially with a smaller pc board.....

Overclocking & Cooling gets more traffic.

Thanks for editing your previous post :)

^^ Great price for the 680 that Bobby.

I don't begrudge paying the £429 I paid for my EVGA 680 at all, it is a fantastic card and im very happy with it. I just rattles my cage a bit that my brother thats about to get a new card can now get within 10% of my performance and spend £100+ less :P

I'm very happy thanks :)

Have been enjoying Kepler performance since release day in March and managed to get shot of my 570 while it was still worth something (sold it for £190). It's still around ~10% extra performance wise as well so it's all good.

My 2 680s will be costing ~£550 (each) when they are finally in stock. That's for the 4GB version of the KFA2 EX OC.

I could get 3 2GB 670 EX OCs for that money.
What would you 680 owners do in my position?
I'll be playing games at 5760*1080 (hopefully) and I'm worried about VRAM limits. Do any of you guys run that res on 2GB cards? If so, any problems?

Trying to decide if I need 4GB VRAM. I bought the 1.25GB 570s last time around (for a 1920*1200 monitor) and that then seemed to be on the limit. Don't want to make that mistake again.

I would buy 2x670 4GB versions. The price saving for performance is the swinger for me.

Yes it sucks, but meh these things happen. it's not like the 680's were terribly priced compared to the 7970 on release :)

But currently there are no 4GB 670s (and I'm not patient).
The only ones that are even available for pre-order are EVGA.

Your choice bud not mine :) if you have no patience and you can get 2x680 4GB's, go for it. You won't regret either TBH as they are both power horses. The 670 is ~10% slower than a 680.

My 680 was delivered only last Thursday, I could still return it but I won't because I'm 100% happy with it.

I had most of the week off and it was my birthday this week, so the new card was perfectly timed. Money isn't all that is value in life - the extra time with what is still a superior card was entirely worth it for me. Would I take the £100 or the 5 days free time with the 680? I'd take the time with the 680 - every time.

Sure, if the 670 had come out last week, it could have been even better, but I've no regrets it didn't.

As we've seen, not all 670's are great clockers, you've also got the less desirable short PCB and the fact that at stock it is a slower card than the 680.

I'm not denying that the 670 is better value, there's no question of that, but the 680 is still the better card, albeit by a slim margin, and I'm 100% fine with that and happy with my 680.

.

those high clocks might not hold steady though, plus a few havent already.

none of that hype bothers me, it's getting the cooling right

I was happy with the card until the 670 hit, I wasn't expecting the performance to be so close for so little money. If I was buying now I'd get a top end GTX 670 with good cooling and overclock it.
