I came across this

And it really has made my decision on what graphics card to upgrade to that much more difficult.

Ok so the sli 680's are slightly faster and cheaper than a 690 but what if the 690 is so much smoother?

Apparantly the entire 600 series has software frame metering which reduces microstutter but only the 690 has a hardware based method that shows to be almost as good as a single card solution.

Has anyone out there tried both and care to shed some light?

I have a single 680 and I never seen microstuttering... oh wait

I had trifire 6990+6970 and saw loads under BF3. 120FPS felt laggy as hell in eyefinity. Solved through renderaheadlimit 1

To be honest I have always considered microstutter to be an overrated problem. I have never really noticed it in any of my dual card setups. Why don't you buy the 680 sli, see if you get any stutter and if so, return them within 14 days?

+1

If I had to choose between 1 GTX 690 or 2 GTX 680s for a system I would go for the GTX 680s every time.

Don't have any microstutter at all on my 680 SLI set up. I did with 4850/5850 crossfire but I would imagine nVidia were suffering from similar issues at the time as well but as I didn't have nVidia then I can't comment for sure.

Surely if the 680 software based frame metering eliminated the microstutter completely then you have to ask yourself why did they even implement a hardware one on the 690?

I still have the micro stutter with my 680s. Well big problems with bf3 just that game :(
Can u buy sli bridges?

Yep. I honestly feel a clean install of everything from windows up will help. I am still on the 304.79 drivers and have had no problems. I assume you are on one screen also? From my understanding, I would be likely to see it as I am on 3 screens and lower frame rates. BF3 did feel yuck in 3D on 3 screens though but it wasn't micro stutter, it was jerky if anything.
