680 stop gap card 1080p

Wait. 970 and 980 prices are still pretty stupid and my bets are all on AMD giving them a reality slap.

If the new 390x with specs that actually match a high end card comes in at around £450 we're all in for a bloody treat.

Most I can see it being at launch is £500 but I'm going to wait until they sell for around £350 and then think about it.

Usually a company releases a high end and a slightly lower end fairly close together. A 380X/390 would be a direct competitor to the gtx 970 and should be £200-£300. I just hope they don't make the 290X the 970 competitor.

Yeah rebrand FTL. That would suck.

680/7950/7970 280

any of those. id personally get a 7950 for cheap as possible and oc. better than 680 probably cheaper.

680 will be fine assuming you don't want to run everything maxed , same goes for the 7950/70

one of my 670's clocked decently can keep most games running with a mixture of high/ultra settings in the 45-60fps range (Game, scene depending of course)

A 680 will do fine for now at 1080p, it's about equal to a 770/280X and is better than a 960/760/285/280.

I think 680 cards are meant to overclock quite well too so might get towards 780/290 performance.

What are 680 sli like.?

SLI depending on the game can be brilliant, but I wouldn't recommend doing it with the 2GB cards. if you can find two 680 4GBs for a good price then it might be an idea but as a stop gap probably the wrong move.

As others have said. Stick with the 680 for now. Even if you have to turn a few things down. Saves you money and then get the 300 series :)

Many say wait till x300 series . Going on recent times my guess at best they will go head to head with say a 980/970 and use more power and heat and noise will become a issue. I do hope I'm wrong but if AMD's cpu's are anything to go by we may well be disappointed.

If you can get a good deal on the 680 go for it, otherwise just pick up a 670.

If you have no brand preference my money would go on a 7970.

Assuming your buying second hand.

I had sli 680s a while back and they were pretty strong.

Cheers

anything has gotta be better than buying a gtx 970 :p

90 seem reasonable? For a 2gb 680?
