Hi guys,

I recently posted a thread about my XFX 6800GTs being too hot etc. Well i'm going for the plunge, I want to buy a cooler for them both.

What do you recommend? I see that the Zalman VF900-CU Quiet Copper VGA Cooler gets a lot of praise and i have read good things about the Artic Cooling Accelero X1 VGA Cooler (6800/7800 Series).

Cheers. ;-)

You could get an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5 (Rev. 3) which is not only just about silent, but will also exhaust your hot air out of the case instead of circulating it inside. They are still quite easy to find and as they can be had for as little as £12 they are cheaper than just about anything else. They also cool the ram so you would'nt have to mess around with ramsinks. I had one on a 7800GT and it was excellent.

Cheers for the feedback.

I've read up on this, it seems like it's an excellent cooler but is a real pain to install.

No it's not. It's really easy unless you have an Asus card. They don't use the standard plugs so you have to snip the plug off and rewire it into a molex or the original Asus plug. Installing the cooler onto the card takes about 2 minutes as there are only 4 screws to tighten.

I was reading that the memory module pads don't always align correctly, and the y pads don't stick?

I have a XFX6800GT with the arctic cooler works perfectly fine although mines starting to die slowly (i think!) great cooler when i first brought it though & isn't all that hard to fit either :)

On my 7800GT it fitted perfectly and the bloody pads stuck too well. As in i could'nt get them off. Replaced them with spares from Arctic Coolings ebay shop for around £1.50. I then fitted the cooler to my sons Asus V9999GE Gamer Edition 256mb (souped up 6800 with DDR3) and did the plug mod. It's still going strong now. The pads do get compressed when you tighten the heatsink up as well. There is no way that they can fall off. You really can't beat them for the price. They cool well (gave me some extra clocking as well), Are near as silent as you can get, and they exhaust the hot air too.

Are you running in sli? If so and you have a single slot between the cards they won't fit. You need a double slot between them such as that on the Asus sli boards.

I will run in SLI very soon.

What do you mean single slot/double slot? Do you mean the space between the two PCI-E slots?

i have a ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe.

You are alright with that mobo has you have two pci slots between the pci-e slots. On my old Abit AN8-32X Sli i only had a single pci slot between them so could'nt fit a pair of the AC Silencers.

i had that trouble i had to get a seperate plug from a local store i cannot name, which would be connected to molex.

dont flame my old pc ;D, but you can see where the black plug comes off the AC and goes into a molex.

It's easy enough to do. If i remember right i used the Asus plug so the cooler still plugged into the card.

Just noticed the Q-tec psu. That's a rarity. Not you having one, but you having a working one that has'nt blown up yet. :D:D:D

Had it for 4 Years with the 6800gt in, i have a totally differant setup now (thank god) ^_^

I went through 2 artic coolers when I had my 6800GT, the fan kept rattling after a few months of use and it is very prone to dust build up so you have to unscrew everything to access the heatsink to clean off the dust.

I then took the plunge and went for the Zalman and was very pleased so see the temp was 1-2C cooler than a brand new dust free artic cooler and the fan was just as quiet. Also cleaning the heatsink was no longer a problem as the heatsink is fully exposed.
