Hi, my 6800gt just stopped working a few days ago and am having trouble to get it working again (if it still works), windows boots fine untill the graphical interface starts to load (i.e welcome screen after loading windows). then the screen goes into standby mode but gpu/cpu/psu fans are still running.

i think my motherboard may be (crap) that is probibally the initial problem (its an
Epox).

P4 3.00Ghz skt478
1gb 3200 ddr ram
asus v9999gt with arctic cooling fan.
400w psu

i think i may need a new motherboard but unfortunaly they dont make skt478 motherboards anymore with agp slots and dont have enough for an upgrade yet.

if any more information is needed then i can find out but i probably have a crap motherboard or gpu is broken, also i had trouble installing arctic cooling fan on my v9999gt, as one of the power cables wouldnt fit so i had to get amolex adapter so instead of the fan cable going to the graphics card it went of into a molex, also get a loud siren noise when 2 molex cables are not plugged into the back of the 6800gt.

Is it definately not a resolution issue? E.g. the pc is set to output a resolution that windows can't support.

Does everything work in safe mode?

i tried booting into safe mode but it tried to load of a partition (never done safe mode before) and the computer just shutdown.

i also just logged in on VGA mode and it was on 640 x 320 res with 8mbit display, if i try to change this the monitor just goes into standy by mode untill i reboot the computer into bios settings.

this sounds really funny but i just "Downdated" my drivers to the origonal ones i got with it many many a year ago and i changed the settings from 8 bit to 16 bit and it worked (previously crashed on above 8bit) and then 32 bit then 1024 x 768.

im finnally going to be able to play hl2 again on my Olvetti crt :D
