buying my new pc for wow not from this website so can't link it's a phenom quad core and I have the option of the gtx 460 or an Ati 6850 basically which one would play wow better.

The 460 would be a better option.

Had ATI card, FPS was spikey, sometimes low 10's, sometimes 100+.

Since then, have gotten a nvidia card, and FPS is smooth as a babys bum. Suppose it helps that its a 580 :)

And why is that cheeky?

Well cheeky because you are telling us that you are buying it from another site, and asking this site for help, you just didnt need to tell us that, either way i would recommend GTX 460, and also i would recommend, the MSI 460GTX talon edition, for he extra boost...

Just wondering why you choice not to buy from this site??? upto you were you buy, just hope they have second to none customer support like this company does, and i am not just saying it....

Well when I can save over 100 pound for the same pc Ye I will buy it from the other site and I am actually buying my monitor from here and other equipment, and Ye I am aware of their great customer service here at oc, and the reason I said that was because if ppl asked me for the link of the pc I wouldn't be able to link it to them.

okay have you ever thought of calling them up and ask them if they price match?? oh yeah i just noticed that the gigabyte 460GTX is on sell, cheaper than the MSI but i wonder what the performance like???

People do that all the time, you know? And no, they don't price match...

Of course they do...they don't always just say I'm buying it from someone else. It's called tact, and with a little bit of thought it means you probably would get more help. I have no issue with it, but just thought it was worth a mention....

The 6850 is usually the faster of the two, but I'm not sure how they stack up in WOW.

I would think that anything under the very highest settings would be well playable on both.

personally ive put my money on the 460 .. even the 768 version i have clocks like crazy with only the slightest hint.. which is nice.

but yea .. wow would barely wake the card up let alone stress it.

Drivers seem to matter a lot in wow and Nvidias drivers seem to work a lot better in this game. Friend used to have problems with ati drivers and wow with his 5770, when he changed to a 460 768mb he has not had a issue since.

As others have said though you cpu and hdd mater a lot in wow, but i would go for a 460 1gb it's cheap enough and will play wow at full settings upto 1920x1200.

I think theres a lot more to it than that judging by the complaints on the wow tech support forums of people with very powerful cards from both camps suffering massive fps dips in dalaran etc. wow seems to have a very 'odd' graphics enigine

If I were you I would get the cheapest but get one with a decent cooler if you are getting a 460, they are very similar, overclock quite well, scale quite well so you can't really go wrong.

Driver issues - meh, I have driver issues with my 460 and well, nothing is perfect in life.

Tbh they should both be really good for WoW jiether card should have any issues with the game on ultra @1080p

CPU speed still seems to make the most differance when it comes to WoW
