6870 and un upgrade from a 3870x2?

Im going to buy a new card today and have seen the 'this week only' HIS 6870 and want to know if I should but this or a 6950 to replace my old hot 3870x2?

Im running single monitor 1920x1080 and want to be able to max current games :)
 
6950 would be better for such resolution , if you could stretch it get 6950 and unlock it to 6970 if its 2 gig version you after.

but saying that 6870 still would be nice upgrade to from 3870x2

6950 2gig is around 30 £ more then 6870 so i would go with 6950

the 3870x2 is about the same performance as the 5770 , the 6870 is about twice as fast as the 5770 . it just depends on how much your willing to spend on the upgrade tbh
 
The 5870 is only marginally slower than an unflashed 6950, and easily outperforms the 6870 and 3870x2. For £150, it's a great buy.

The 6950 will give you better performance once flashed, but at a premium of £60 for a few extra details in Crysis / Metro 2033 / Rift, or some extra AA, it's hardly worth it.
 
I'd say 11.4% faster (link) is a little more than marginally :P

Regardless of semantics, you can't deny the 5870 is a great buy. It's still cheaper than the 6870 for better performance.
 
I did this exact upgrade in September last year.

In my experience a 5870 is abbot 3x the power as a 3870x2 runs cooler, uses way less power and is much quieter.

Very worthy upgrade.

Also although the 6870is newer and will benefit more from driver updates the 5870 is more powerful.

I have an original CM Stacker, space is a luxury I have in abundance :D

Apparently this card cannot be flashed to a 6970 but can have shaders unlocked due to a non reference design... I have to wait and see tomorow if this is true...

Does look cool though :)
 
From what I have read this card does not has the second bios or atleast does not have the switch, now I know that a second bios is not required but I assume to unlock the shaders it requires the card to be flashed and the second bios would be a saftey net.

I guess non-ref card can be unlocked then?
