6870 cross fire problem

Hi all

I'm trying to cross fire 2 6870's in my rig but can't seem to get it running stable.

I've included my specs in my sig.

Essentially its random when the system will crash but usually starts with a couple of "your display adapter has stopped working.." errors before it blue screens. At first I thought running games was causing it but also happens for example watching a vid and a vid on my browser. Strangely a bench mark doesn't seem to make it die.

I've done a bit of checking so far and think that my PSU should handle it although as it only has 2 8 pins I've had to use Y splitters and molex to power them.

My processer already came overclocked and I've put that back to stock in BIOS as I've heard that can cause issues. I still need to uninstall TurboV EVO to see if that makes a diff.

I've tested both cards individually and they're both stable so although I can't rule it out 100% I think the cards are both fine. I've also completely uninstalled catalyst, performed a driver sweep, reinstalled catalyst and enabled cross fire and still no joy.

The strange thing is I can be tinkering in my case. Connect it all back up, start up Windows and it'll work fine no crashes or errors. Re-start the machine and back to square one "display adaper" errors and blue screens.

I honestly can't think of anything else that affect it, would really appreciate some pointers if anyone can help

Could be psu esp using adaptors,could be integrated memory controller voltage too,not being enough,adding one two click more than what auto sets to ioh and ich core voltage helps with xfire

I did wonder about the PSU, was originally on a 550W Cooler Master which wasnt doing the job and upped to the 700W.

Sorry I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to messing with core voltages, what exactly do you mean?

I don't know if asus boards let you adjust this but on gigabyte its called ioh and ich core voltage adding one or two clicks more than auto can help with xfire stability,I'm thinking psu though really,I know they recommend a 600w I think just for one 6870? Try and get a proper xfire supported psu with 4 ,8pin plugs

Was hoping to not ned a new PSU but realisticly its prob the best option. Thanks for the help

Btw if you still have the 500w psu open your case and use 500w just to power one card so your using psu in case and 500w one outside,then test see if its stable
