So im seeing a lot of budget gaming specs that include a gigabyte gtx 560ti oc, i was wondering why this is, if the 6870 is a much cheaper card, and basically matches the performance from what i saw on anand tech, What is the point of paying the extra £70? Is it really that much better?

6870 and 560TI are pretty close at stock speeds, but when both are overclocked the 560TI is quite a bit faster due to much higher overclock headroom.
However, the 560TI is not worth the extra money as it will only provide ~15% more performance but costs ~30% more. The 6870 is currently the best value mid-range card by far. Unless you need Physx get the 6870. 6870's also come bundled with a game code that can be pawned for ~£15 making then even better value.

If budget is paramount then get the 6870, otherwise I'd go for the 560ti. I think it's important to remember that the 560ti goes up against and trades blows well with the 6950, one review I saw rated it better in performance than even the 6970, not with maximum frame rates but in terms of smoothness, minumums and averages. It's a higher ranking card hence the price will always be higher than when compared to the 6870, but as I said, if budget here is important then £125 for a 6870 is a very, very good price. You'd be hard pressed to beat that cost for a card that performs really quite close to a 5870.

+1if looking at ~£180 then just add an extra £15-£20 and get a 6950 2gb
I got my 6870 for £130 from overclockers with two free games,But now it's been sold at £191.99 as said above a 6950 2GB will serve you well.

I don't think it's as simple as that,Personally i think it depends on the price if you can get a 6950 for an extra tenner i would hands down choose that instead.
