6870 Screen flicker problem :/

Over the past few days I've been getting the occasional screen glitches. Its happened maybe three times now and it starts from boot, firefox seems to make it flicker more, and scrolling in firefox makes it considerably worse. It's not just in firefox though, it just makes it worse! :P

It's not an intermittent cable as I've checked them all. The flicker is odd too, it's a copy of what's on screen, but positioned halfway down the page and then slightly off centre.

I'm pretty sure this didn't happen before I updated to 12.6, i'm wondering if anyone else has had this since the update?

Oh, and so far, a restart has sorted it out!

Very odd indeed.

Any help is more than welcome :)

Does this just happen o the desktop? If it does it's down to the 2d clock change, I get the odd flicker on my 7970 unless I raise my 2d clock/idle memory to the same as my 3d clock.

As the problem was happening straight from boot, I didn't try it in a game, so it could possibly be that. Strange how it's only just started doing it though.

I shall give this a try next time it happens and see if it makes a difference.

Any more suggestions are more than welome :)

I you use afterburner just use the monitor settings in a game, or look at CCC,when the gpu is idle it should be something like 300mhz core 150mhz mem, now if you play a game and monitor the clocks i noticed in game on my 7970 when its 3d clocks ie 1000mhz core/1375mhz mem no flicker/flash etc but sometimes when it goes to the cutscenes the clocks go down to the idle values and i might get a quick flicker.
There is a way to stop this but it will raise your temps, what you need to do is make a preset in CCC then edit it so , in my case that the value that says 150mhz is 1375mhz so it stays at that all the time and you don't get the flicker.

My 4890 had this problem when I enabled Overdrive and it was because of the 2D and 3D clock speeds changing. It was a know bug for my card and couldn't be fixed as far as I am aware. But it only happened on the desktop. Maybe once every 4 minutes or so. So in the end I turned off Overdrive.

Do you have it enabled by any chance?

I want to go home and try what borley said. :D

I'm still getting this issue, I had upgraded my drivers to the new beta ones and had thought I'd got it solved untill a few minutes ago when I booted up and it happened again. Just turned off ATI overdrive, won't know if thats worked untill a good few restarts as its not every boot that it happens.

The way the flicker behaves almost feels like its tied in with either hard drive access or network access. It is always straight form boot though and opening firefox makes it worse!
