Quick and simple, is it worth moving from the 6950's 2Gb version for 1 7970 3gb card for eyefinity resolutions? Playing BF3 @ 1920x1200 not maxed sometimes looks slow... Or should I consider something else?

That wasn't the case for me, less everything(even more so with BF3-considerably higher minimums) and didn't notice any smoother play at all@1080p, my 7970 went back(it broke after about 3 days but game testing was conclusive in my rig anyway) and I kept the 6950/70's@950/1300Mhz.

The only title the 7970 surpassed was a modded Skyrim that hits the wall with 2Gb, but that was no reason to keep it as I can just turn the settings down a touch(it certainly looks the part though).

Using 3D, the 7970 shows an improvement over CrossFire as well in some titles, if that's an option too(highly recommended:D).

How my 6950/70's would fair up against the 7970 remains to be seen above 1080p though, that's where it probably shines through due to the higher bandwith/vram, especially using eyefinity.

The difference with Amd rusty is that the higher bandwidth can make use of the extra vram.

It's moot anyway with Amd, there's no premium with the 7's, they don't fleece their punters through the nose for the luxury of more vram, whether or not you/I think it's needed or not, it's available if it is needed.

I don't have the luxury of taking a 'chance' with a £3/400+ GPU just to find out it craps out of memory in 6 months time, so I would always go for the higher amount at the same price point.

I already proved myself correct with my choice of going 2x6950's over 2x 1gb 560's, it wasn't a guess, it was common sense when 2 gpu's perform very similar.

If I can get very close to 2gb@1080p in stock titles(CP high IQ settings above and beyond in game settings in some titles), then more vram is needed above that unless you want to drop settings, it may not be much your getting-eg +2xAA, but every little helps and the nice chaps at Amd supply it for you.
