6950 PSU ?

Antec do ok psu's but not anything special. They do the job so to speak. At that price you have the choice of a few great psu's however. Far better than the antec because its seasonic design and seasonic make the best psu's around.

Antec use Seasonic, personally i think this PSU is the best value for money at the moment.

Like mentioned, Seasonic are superb when it comes to psu's. This Antec is Seasonic, 750w and modular.

This site is full of people who think that a PC needs to be pimped, starting with monstrous PSU and super expensive MB. I am running a similar system to what you are going to have in terms of power consumption. And my case + PSU costed £25. If you want to go sure, you can pay 2 times or 3 times as much for yours. But paying 7-8 times as much for the same result is plain stupid.

According to techpowerup.com 6950 uses very similar amount of power as 6850.

I am running a computer with

6850 775/1000 @ 1000/1180
Athlon II x4 [email protected]
Couple of HDD's a DVD, webcam etc.

I am using 330 true watts PSU I paid 25 quid for the PSU and computer case together. I've been running this PSU for over 1.5 years. So you definitely don't need a 700 or 600 or similar PSU

The 6850 draws 230w alone when at load. You're a fool.

That is just the power for the gpu, not the whole system.

Further more if he just went and bought a 450w psu or what ever then he'd most certainly need a new one on his next upgrade. It's not sensible.

Also the psu's I suggested at the start were cheap. I simply gave alternatives when the budget was increased.

I think i've confused it with the high current gamer. My mistake. Still, the reviews don't rate it as highly as the ones I suggested. But it is modular.

Antec uses the famous M12D unit though.

The Bequite 530w will happily power a 6950. A 6950 at full load consumes around 160w I think the above quotations are for system loads rather than gpu only loads...

I did a little more looking into it and i've found stated max loads from around the 160s to 230's. So take your pick. Depends on what programs they run I presume.

You know I think i'd actually just recommend the OP's friend to get the 600w OCZ psu. He's clearly not an enthusiast and it's only £47. Sure its not the best psu but it's a decent price and will run for some time.

LOL your sitting on a time bomb...

when (not if) that psu blows it'll take ALL your system and maybe your room.

you should research on how bad it is using cheap, no-name PSU's
