6950 slowdown/stutter?

I've recently bought a 6950 and unlocked the extra shaders while keeping the 6950 timings. It benchmarks brilliantly but I'm getting bad stutter in games. The actual FPS I'm getting is good but for some reason it feels like the game is repeatedly going into slow-mo for a few seconds then kicking back in. I've been playing GTA 4 and Crysis, both of which are exhibiting this behaviour.

Any suggestions?

I'm using the 10.3 catalyst drivers and the card's hitting 88c max.

MSI HD6950 (unlocked shaders)
I5 2500k @ 4.4ghz
Asus P8P67 PRO Intel P67 (Rev 3)
Corsair HX650 PSU
2x Corsair XMS3 2gb
Win 7 x64

Shouldn't you be using the latest catalyst? It would be good to try it with the 11.4 RC drivers.

Sorry, typo. I'm using the 11.3 drivers.

Use afterburner to get on screen display of gpu usage and see if its dropping.

Had a wee issue with mine when i just had one card where it took a couple of seconds to kick in at the start of a game of bops.

Have since change to 2 cards and 11.4 driver and its not happening now.

11.4 drivers seems to have improved matters and Afterburner shows constant GPU usage. Still not as smooth as I'd like though. Hmmm
