Just been having a few hours gaming, got back to desktop and noticed GPU temp was 89c. This seems a bit high, its only had the shaders unlocked and ive overclocked it to 840mhz. I know max limit is 95c, any more than that then i should start worrying, but im not far off that.

In AMD CCC, in the graphics overdrive. I set my fan speed to manual, 32%. When im gaming im guessing my fan speed is staying that same speed? On my other computer while gaming you could hear the fan getting louder to keep the card cool. Why does this not do that? Is it because i need to untick the "enable manual fan control" box? Im guessing that might be the problem.

Even 80c was too high for me! After using a gtx460 for a while, temps in 6950(unlocked) were bit on the scary side for me. Now it never goes above 40c :) (underwater ofc)

Yep, job done. 40c does sound good. What sort of water block you running on your card? Reason i ask as i do have a water system, ripped it out my old pc, might make use of it if i could find a suitable water block for the card .

The Twin FrozR II/III editions should stay around 70C on load with the default fan curve. It's quite normal for a reference one to hit 90C.

i never go above 68 with 3 cards in trifire even the middle card stays below 70.. i think the side fan plays a big part on the Phantom NZXT case.. all fans at 65% in games

I also think its down to how demanding the game is also. Battlefield 2 the card wont even break into a sweat. Playing portal 2 last night with all settings on high, never went above 65c. Badcompany 2, settings ramped up, now with the fan on auto it wont go above 80, sticks around 75-79 most of the time.

I have a MSI Radeon HD 6950 2GB Twin Frozr III Power Edition. Idle temperatures are in the mid 50's and during a game, it goes as high as 80C! This card has two fans, why is this card getting so hot? I have the fan set to auto, so it goes to around 85% speed while gaming.
