6950 - Was I expecting way too much OR do I have a problem??

Im really starting to think some people are in lala land with their fps claims of BF3. For me on ultra with hbao disabled its generally in the late 40fps area, it can go down to the mid 20's on occasion.

A steady 60-70f0ps on ultra settings with a clocked 6950? I highly doubt it.

My 6950 overclocked to 6970 speeds runs bf3 on medium / high settings with no fancy processing runs at 50 to 90 fps depending on the map and what is going on. It is normally 60+ fps. This is At 1920 * 1080 resolution.

I wouldn't think your CPU is a bottle neck for a 6950 but people with the same set up can tell you.

I played bf today at 1920x1200 ultra settings 4xAA vsync on and got 40 frames steadily, going up occasionally but not really any lower! With vsync off it didn't make any difference to frames.

That was with unlocked shaders an 950/1450 clocks

I think when people say they are playing ultra on bf3 they actually mean custom ultra without msaa. I can play at ultra no probs without msaa at around 60fps. The only thing missing is msaa. If i use msaa x2 i drop to around 45 fps. I have not even bothered to try 4xaa as i reckon mid 30s would be average with constant dips into the 20s. My resolution is 1920x1200 and i am talking sp. I reckon mp would be even worse.

Yeah I have the same card as you and I play with Ultra without MSAA and also reach around 60fps but it regularly drops to 45ish in MP.

Your performance looks about right OP.

I'm hoping to upgrade CPU and RAM next year. I didn't realise that CPU would make such an impact on graphics :(

Coming back to an old thread of mine, which I neglected, i'm sorry.

I have now upgraded board RAM and CPU.

Going to benchmark test again today and post results in comparison to my old ones.

Thought it might be of interest to some to see the difference.

My results are Below

Quite interesting,

Multiplayer performance in BF3 compared to single player "benchmarks" are a world apart from my experience.

I run a [email protected] with a gtx 580 @ medium settings to get a nice average of 80ish FPS in a 64 player server.

I have tried the High and Ultra settings, FPS took a hit, my Gameplay took a hit, my advice; for competive MP settings, use Medium settings and go out there and kill them all.

While thats partially true, I haven't used it since the XP days. Plus it caused major problems when Windows 7 Service Pack 1 was released. Regardless of doing it correctly.

I have to use it every install of new drivers or else CCC won't open at all. Must have used driver sweeper 50+ times on this PC and never had a problem with it. Though to be fair I'd suggest only using it when you need to.

The results shouldn't really be compared together since you used two different versions of the same benchmark. Couldn't you benchmark you new setup with Heaven 2.5?

a Single 6950 doing 70 fps constant?

This must be at something like 1024x768 as at 1080p a single 6950 cannot run BF3 at a constant 60fps. The 7970 I had for a build with a 4.6ghz 2500k struggled to keep a constant 60 and dipped into the low 50's quite often.

Tbh O/P I would not worry about some synthetic benchmark results, just play some games and enjoy the card..

nvm, ages old thread it seems

It's impossible for the card to be stuck at 60 with multiple titles and different detail settings if something else somewhere isn't forcing vsync on. Also I haven't seen a built-in way of seeing FPS in BF3, what are you using to show you the fps, does that program have a vsync limiter?

Do you have some other program that affects graphics performance like Trixx still installed from your old card? Something is limiting the fps to vsync still.

Also call BS on the 70fps @ Ultra on a 6950. YouTube link please :p

Can I just ask about the 60fps, what difference does it make, if it's a steady 60fps all the time? If it runs High without any hiccups, is it an issue? :)
