6970 problem

I recently had my power supply blow, so replaced it with a better spec higher rated 1.

when i turn on my pc, everything runs but my monitor doesnt 'wake up'
the HD6970 turns on n the fan spins ( i can hear windows starting from the speakers) but doesnt seem to want to give an output to the screen. I since have had it fully tested on a RMA ticket at overclockers and it passed all tests. so im puzzled...

i have spend a good few hours googling this problem and it does seem quite common but non of the threads seem to offer an answer, just the usual 'its got to be ur power supply dude' or check all ur connections...etc.

i dont have on board graphics so i cant see it been a setting issue, and i assume i would see the bios screen before a crash if it was a driver problem. but im far from an expert at these things.

if i fit an old gfx card then the pc works fine.

i have a vague memory of this happening when i first bought the pc n fitted the 6970 but if it did n i found what was wrong, i cant for the hell remember what i did:mad::mad:

anyways any suggestions/help are much appreciated ,

my pc spec is:
"Titan 8200i Spinosaur" Intel Core i5 2550K 3.40GHz @ 4.60GHz DDR3 Quad Core System
but now with a Corsair HX 750W ATX Modular SLI power supply
HIS ATI Radeon HD 6970 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics
120SSD, 64 bit win 7.

thx, scoo

Can you see the BIOS at start up? If you can, try hitting F8 and then start in safe mode with networking and reinstall drivers.

nah nothing changed, i can only see bios when the old card is fitted, and then in device manager it shows gt8800 drivers only..

Not very helpful i know but the 6970's suck beyond belief, best off getting a 7xxx series card or even better something from nvidia.

*EDIT* They dont suck its a joke, some people sent me nasty message via trust, they are good cards.

Can you test the 6970 card in another machine, I know you rmaed it but still can't rule out that the card is faulty since its return.

Only other thought was might need to update your motherboard bios,
Also are you using the hdmi or dvi? and if dvi have your tried swapping dvi port

I'm using the DVI, ports, already tried both. yer i think i will have to take a trip around to a mates house to fully test it. oh the joys of pc gaming...

Hello, after letting this PC gather dust for over a year, i thought i would have another crack at solving this problem.

I took it to the local PC shop & the chap tried every option he can think of,

the results are £25 lighter & the
1. Graphics card works in two other PC's
2. Two other Graphics cards work in my PC

But not the 6970 Graphic card in my PC. he was as puzzled as me.

He did mention that while researching this issue online he came across a few people talking about a conflict with this motherboard & graphics card & even some companies had offered to exchange the AMD 6970 for a nvid equivalent.

Any one heard of this?

I know i will have to spend some money on this, but would prefer it to be on the right component!

Any help would be much appreciated:)

Haven't ever heard of motherboards not being compatible with certain brands of graphics cards memory yes but not gpu's.

No doubt ocuk staff will help out with advice especially if pc was bought from them ???

It is a nvid card, not sure the model off hand mate,

Haha yer I do miss it! Plus she is working all Xmas so I have 2 weeks to kill !!

surely must be a driver issue if nvid card works thats different drivers from radeon 6970 drivers put nvid card in to get screen download drivers from catalyst for radeon install after removing nvidea on's i think

He cannot see the bios though with the 6970 in his machine. Drivers dont load till windows starts.

Maybe try updating the bios of the motherboard? Or try to get a cheap motherboard , if your sure the card still works in other peoples pc's.
