6990 and GTA4 (steam version) issue

Hi Guys,

Just got my 6990 and everything runs lovely apart from GTA4. Wont let me put it above low settings because it says vid ram not enough LOL. I tried the commandline option to ignore restrictions but that caused a BSOD when Itried to load the game, removing it lets the game load as before. Any ideas?

the 6990 has enough VRAM (2 GB) to run GTA on supermax settings.

Even a GTX 480 can do it.

Thought GTA4 was just a buggy game overall that was impossible to play smoothly regardless of hardware?

that said gta4 is glitchy with my Oc'd 6970 so doesnt surprise me

The really funny thing is that it says theres 4GB on the card and only 250MB is being used and says its using too much LOL

Update GTA IV they fixed the video ram error. I think it's at version 1.4 now but make sure to install all the patches in between.

Check filefront.

It does, however only 2GB is usable.

2x 2GB = 2GB usage. remember the 6990 uses crossfire still, same as 2 6970..

To add to the op`s post............the only way you can get gta4 to even go above low options is to auto detect and a few things then go to medium and a few distances go above 0..................funny thing is you just cannot change any option yourself as when you go to even change res it will not move beyond 800x600 and even the mouse cursor has a trail behind it.

Its the Steam version so updates automatically

I had the same problem, you need to download the latest GTA IV patch and that fixes the problem.

Nope, but you need deep pockets, which is ridiculous considering the game was released back in 2008. :rolleyes:

Well Ive played it on high settings with sliders almost maxed and it ran lovely and smooth when I had my ATi 3870(rest of system in sig)

Its true,, I did a thread about it because everyone was saying how poorly gta4 ran on dualcore cpus, and heres me playing it with a kind of crappy gpu aswell, and ran perfectly smooth at about 50+fps, if I remember rightly

Was this testing from the benchmark results or in the actual game?

Well, The first problem is steam.

and i recommend you delte the game and download it again, my bioshock would make my PC lag at the start menu till i re-downloaded it

steams so crap -.- regret buying so many games from them -.- but the offers they do are amazing! :O
