I want to change my 6990 as there tends to be driver issues with it most of the time.

Ideally I'd like a single card and I'd like to move back to Nvidia. How does the EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Superclock ACX 3072MB compare to the 6990 ?

It beats it and then some :)

Much, much faster. 6990 is roughly equal to a 7970Ghz.
Though the MSI Gaming Edition looks better at current prices ;)

OK, I'll go for it.

Can someone tell me the difference between these 2 :

EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Dual Classified ACX 3072MB GDDR5

and

EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Superclock ACX 3072MB GDDR5

The Classified looks a bit quicker but what is the Dual Bios? is that a backup or something? any reason not to get the Classified version?

Yeah it has a bios switch. The second bios has a higher power limit.
The only reason not to get the Classified is it costs more :p
I wouldn't really recommend any of the EVGA 780ti's at the moment, they cost too much.

Oki Doki, I wasnt to bothered about price, just wanted something reliable.

Do you switch between BIOS in software or is something that is done automatically in the background?

Quick question, will I have to do a complete re-install of the machine moving from ATI to Nvidia? I'd like to avoid that if I could ?

Nope :) not at all. You could just take the AMD card out and put the new nVidia card in and download and install the new drivers if you want.

What i'd do is:
Download the latest nVidia drivers, put the installer on your desktop.
Uninstall ATI/AMD drivers
Shutdown
Install new nVidia card
Start up
Install drivers from installer on desktop.

You can use driver sweeper to make sure the AMD drivers are gone completely. But it's very rare that you'd have to resort to that.

Good news! thanks for that :)

780TI CLassified Bios switch is on the card, flick switch and reboot.

The classified also allowed much higher voltages (and overclocks) without the need of using 3rd party bios/tools.

long story short. if you aren't bothered with overclocking just buy the cheaper option - the msi gaming edition. Or unless you prefer the evga ACX cooler.

Well lucky I was able to try a 780 and based on that I bought one.

I know it was more expensive but I went for what I wanted and that was the EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Dual Classified ACX 3072MB GDDR5.

What can I say but I love it!! everything about it is better than the ATI's I've had, it's almost like I have a new machine. No issues in any games and the drivers are great.. nice to be back on the Green side :)

you should have upgraded when 7990 was like 370 ~ 399 quid , now the upgrade would be bit more expensive. 780 would be kidna upgrade but still not as fast as 7990 but i guess less problems of dual gpu and you can always overclock.
