I think you'll find a few 00 plate e39's of that era would be 530i 's.


The 5 Series range received a through makeover in September 2000, The 520i’s 2.0-litre engine was consigned to the history books, replaced by a 2.2-litre unit that developed 170bhp, an identical output to the 523i which, unsurprisingly, was also replaced. Its successor, the 525i was powered by a 2.5-litre unit developing 192bhp, only 1bhp less than the 528i.

You’d be right.
The 528i was axed, making way for the 231bhp 530i, with its 3.0-litre straight six cylinder engine, available in saloon or Touring guises.

This is true but none of the 00 e39's for around £6k would be 530i's

Hyundi for 6k - Will be the old shape, doubt 01 plate or newer.

Fiat Coupe for 6k - They don't make it anymore so it's technically old shape, definitely not 01 plate or newer.

Alfa Spider - Old shape for 6k, won't be 01 plate or newer.

Alfa GTV - Old shape for 6k, won't be 01 plate or newer.

BMW Z3 - Old shape for 6k (and it'll be a dog or at most very poorly specced), "only" the 1.9, won't be 01 plate or newer.

I think she needs to have a rethink of her criteria

I'd probably (and did) go for a 172 for that kind of money, or maybe an Ibiza Cupra.
