6tb HDD - Quick defrag

You may as well ask 'how long will it take me to walk up a hill?'.

How full is it?
What's the mix of file sizes?
How fragmented is it to start with?
How fast is the drive?
And why are you doing it in the first place?

Ah, like that is it.

It reports to be 5.5tb and it was 5tb full but I have uninstalled a load of games (its my games drive so only games installed on there) and its now reporting to be 2.5tb free space. Its 36% fragmented and the file size are anything up to 90gb The speed is 7200rpm. I am defragging it as AV software reporting that my PC could do with the drive defragged to speed up the PC.

You can cancel a defrag before it completes so you don’t have to do it all at once.

As the OS isn’t on there I wouldn’t worry about it too much unless you’ve noticed it getting slower in actual use.

Oh, I didn't know you could defrag and stop then start from where you left off. This is helpful, thanks for your advice.

It does not actually resume from where it left off in most case, it can quickly skip past the part it defragged earlier (some 3rd party apps can actually pause)
