Hello !!

I have recently moved homes and am now getting roughly 7.6Mbps when I connect to my new ISP (Eclipse)

In real terms, what download speeds should I be getting In Kps ?
My rough sums tell me it should be near about 700 ?

Hmmmmmm....... I'm not getting anywhere near that yet :(

Still, I am in my 10 day settling down/line stability period.
But it'll be nice to have a number to beat them with if things don't shape up after the 10 days :)

Like I said though, assuming no overheads. Even if you had a full 8Mbit sync you'd only get 7.2Mbit of IP throughput.

Wait a few days and see what happens, it is also possible that the speedtesters you've been using are crap or that the servers you've been downloading from don't have much upstream available.

Well when I connect, the little bubble in my start bar says 7.6Mbps, but when I try a System mechanic test or an online test or I simply right click a big file and save as over the interweb, I'm seeing anywhere between 65Kps and 200Kps !!

The BRAS profile won't affect the speed you physically connect at, it's a limit imposed by BTWholesale on their network (between you and the ISP).

Try downloading one of the files here and see what speed you get, then try the same using a download manager like Flashget.

Record the actual speed with something like ISP Monitor.

I have been connected at 7.7MB for over a month now and my download speeds are still all over the place. The file from Zen downloads at 450kBps.

I get extremely poor speeds from that site..... in the 200s.... I usually get around 600-700 steady. Connected at 8.1 I think.
