7' Android Tablet - £75

Hmm, that is a massive clock speed difference compared to what is quoted... :(

Will be avoiding that one then.
Still, the prospect of having a decent touchscreen device at under £100 is appealing, I'm sure there'll be others that aren't such a let down.

There's a load coming out in june/july around the $200-300 mark. I hope at least one is good.

I like the look of the Freat Wall Gpad 11" screen.
Or the aigo 7" not sure if 7" is big enough though.

I'll wait until the market develops further before I will consider one.

why? there's some big companys making tablets with the latest android/win7 etc. They'll just cost high side of $300 to Ipad territory.

If you want a cheap tablet then you will have to put up with slow horrible Chinese knock offs. (asus Eee tablet, Msi Android)
All depends what you want it for.

Why, because the all big companies have not made them yet (I don't care for current tablet pc/laptops, we are talking new generation) and there's little point in jumping aboard and until we see exactly what they are capable of. For a cheap tablet now I can use my Android mobile.

MSI, HP, Google, Adobe, Asus they are all in the pipeline in the next few months.

Yup and that is why I'm sitting patiently waiting to see what we get. It promises to be an exciting time and possibly the beginning of a slow demise for laptops. It will most certainly be a revolution for handheld devices. :)

Just curious if anyone is buying or considering the Archos 7" Home Tablet? Right now, I have no faith in the sub-$200 market, after emailing half a dozen companies they all seem to say the same thing about the specs being bumped.

Received the eken MID the other day where I'm generally disappointed in its performance. I'll try and put a short review together over the weekend where the video posted from Shanzai.com gives the device a better impression than it deserves.

The main shortcomings are screen is poor, touch screen response is poor, no Android Market app, no Flash player so cannot play Youtube by default or other videos and the device is generally slow. The Tudou app is the only way play video as long as they are from the Chinese Tudou website. Can install apps but only by downloading to the SD card and installing from there. Downloaded the beebPlayer app to watch iPlayer but the quality of the image is poor and the playback stutters badly.

Overall verdict is avoid the device for now. Do think there's potential for a device like this running Android, it's just this is not the device.

I'm not surprised about the performance. In the video review, even while the guy is butt licking and saying it's so smooth and fast, it still looked really slow and laggy. It might be a lot of tech for the money, but I wasn't impressed.

Maybe I'm just spoilt, but I'm happy with paying money for something that works as I want it to.

Don't say you weren't warned. :o

You do largely get what you pay for with this type of thing - there are very few genuine bargains out there from no-name manufacturers.

To be fair to the device, it is an okay web browser and ebook reader where it's better than trying to read text than on a smartphone. I'm just as happy reading text off the MID as reading from the Sony eReader I have and it's just as convenient as boot time is around 10 to 15 seconds. There's the ability to add notes and annotations with the MID which is a bonus, think it will open Word documents but have not tried yet. Only drawback is battery life in this mode which is about 2 hours so the Sony eReader wins here as do not have to recharge as often or have to plug in the device to the mains to read for longer than 2 hours.

As a result, it's kind of a mixed bag where for the money I'm not that disappointed because for the work I do it's just fine, tend to read a lot of work rather than play games or watch video.

Do you do part-time work or do you turn it on and off as and when you need it? 2 hours battery life is horrible!

In the house, the 2 hour battery life is not a problem as have it plugged in all the time when working. Kind of think of using it like an extra display. However, if one wants to go out and about for the day and use the device on the move, then the 2 hour battery life will be restrictive.

wow, this is some ridiculously cheap Tablet PC, I never considered one before, but I might just lap it up. DOes it have phone capabilities?

There's no mobile phone techology built in so cannot make calls that way. As far as I can tell, there isn't a microphone in the device so cannot do voice communications in anyway. Edit: Ooops, should have checked more closely, there is a microphone hole at the bottom of the device so would be possible to do VoIP. Suppose the Skype (BETA) icon should have been a bit of a give away as well.

So far it's okay for simple browsing and reading applications. Mainstream video is a complete no no. The only way I've found so far is to convert video to 3gpp and copy onto an SD card. Quality is okay when doing this except video resolution is not high. Anything higher than 320x240 does not play, hear the audio okay but video is a still frame.
