7 seater 4x4 with decent mpg?

It's not bad to be honest. First time I've gone auto. Wouldn't have considered it until a fellow Disco driver told me to at least try one, now I love it. I would however like to upgrade the torque converter to stop it being so revvy. The larger tyres and altered gear ratios are partly to blame for that though.

In summary for a 10 year old big heavy car, it's not bad on road, and excellent off road.

I jumped in the old man's L322 range rover the other day though, now that is a great autobox. Made mine feel old and clunky afterwards. :(

Similar situation here today, I'm working on a Rangerover Sport Supercharged.
Boy does my Disco feel like an asthmatic tractor in comparison!
But then I do smile at the avg mpg gauge when it came in... 2.5mpg!!!
(Was running like a dog so not really surprising but!!)
At least the disco does 20mpg even when you large it everywhere, especially as I seem to be doing that a lot since I fitted the centre silencer removal pipe. :o :D

2.5!?!

Ooh I've been thinking about a straight through centre pipe. Mine is an early model so decat already. Do you notice the turbo spinning easier?

I'd love a HD Torque Converter, Stage 1 Remap and straight through centre pipe. Would make it a much better vehicle to drive.

I haven't noticed the turbo spinning any sooner tbh but then hard to tell on the Auto as it's all revs and no go anyway :D
Yep, HD Torque converter going in once I've fitted the steering box I bought yesterday.
I can see me being rather busy this bank hol. :o

Blimey, beyond my skill levels and facilities that! Hope it goes well!

Mine (before it got smashed - all prayers to it being repaired and back on the road soon) was decatted with a straight through center pipe.

Turbo spools a little sooner (though 'free-er' is a better description) it also has a little more low down grunt and it seems to like a the loud pedal more when it gets to ~3k rpm.
If you're just tootling along you don't really notice it being any louder, but it's definitely more boomy when you give it some stick.

I can say that the 300tdi 'sports' (hahahah :p ) exhaust available from paddocks is worth every penny - it's a decat down-pipe, straight through centre and rear silencer.

Mine drives better with it and if I take it easy it seems to be a smidgin better on fuel consumption too.

This and the egr removal are the two best things you can do for your diesel landrover, short of expensive engine modification.

Of the three, the 4007 and Outlander hold their values better than the Citroen ... The wheezy 2.0 VW derived engine fitted to earlier Outlanders only, is best avoided.

What do you mean by wheezy? I'm surprised to hear that they should be avoided. I thought VW engines have a good reputation. What exactly is so bad about the early Outlanders?
