I have just opened up Everest home edition and had a look at the sensor temperatures.

Under GPU it says 70 degrees. Now this can't be normal.

I have a new BFG OC2 640MB 8800 GTS. Um, help?

to confirm that 70 degrees is normal ? do a search,
if you want to confirm that everest is reporting it correctly, try nvtune

My 6800gt gets 80+ normally.

It really is fine, gpus get hotter than cpus.

:edit: In fact I left the fan off once and it ran fine for about an hour at 113 degrees, then it minimised my game and told me it was too hot :p

They are usually set to shut down if the temp gets upto around 115 degrees which yours is nowhere near so it's fine, I think most boards idle in the fifties and go into the seventies when under load.

If the temps bother you, you can always adjust the fan speed with rivatuner.

The default speed is 60%, but I usually put it up to 85% for gaming sessions.

Just surfing the net, my GPU is currently at 72c.

Yeah, cards are normally fine at over 100c under load...Well the x1900 gets to those temps anyway.
