£70 Graphics Option

Is there a graphics card out that can be bought for about £70 (second hand as new would be silly) that is worth buying and would be able to play most games at about 1080p?

Mates kid is after a card to replace on board and has that much to spend.
 
Not that sure on what £70.00 would get you theese days, but id suggest having a look in members market as i see you have access to it.

Thanks, have had a quick look through the MM and not seen anything obvious.

Will let my mate know to look on ebay for a 7950 or better for that money.
 
What PSU has the PC got?

Personally I'd be looking at a 7850 or above on the AMD side and a 660 or up and on the Nvidia side.

However, If he wants to replace onboard graphics on a regular household PC it may not have a psu with enough power or any required power leads so he may need to go for a low powered card such as a 750 or 750ti. That will give him decent gaming graphics without the additional power requirement you'll have with the other cards mentioned.

If you can, wait until "Black Friday" deals hit, I suspect this end of the market is where the big graphics deals will be had.;)
 
Personally found 580's to be a bargain at the moment. Circa £50 and a great card, very impressed.

I bought one for a second system and used it while my 390 was RMA's and I was really impressed with how it coped.
 
Used gtx 750ti the ones that don't need an external power supply and run off the board. Might be useful if not sure what psu is in there.
I actually managed to play witcher 3 1080p ultra settings, no hairworks, medium shadows, medium foliage draw distance, everything else on ultra. Locked to 30 fps occasional small dips. But looked better and performed better than console versions. The gtx 750ti did have a huge overclock though and was a model that needed extra power.

That's what everyones ignoring, From what he's said it sounds like a regular PC with a stock psu and the kid only has 70 quid to spend.
If he can find an EVGA 750ti Superclocked secondhand he'll have the fastest gpu available that needs no external power.

But he really needs to find out what the psu is rated for before the kid spends his 70 quid, If he get's something like a 7950 or 660 he'll need a 450/500 watt psu and could end up unable to run it.

Hd 6670 is a very good card, while its not really for gaming I had not problems and I ran it on cheap brand power supplies from 250w-305w and had no issues what so ever.
 
GeForce GTX 750Ti is only £90 new so you should be able to buy one second hand for less than £70. The 750 Ti is a power-efficient video card that consumes a mere 60W so the power supply should not a be a problem either.
 
7950 would be my vote, theyve sold for as little as £50 on the MM, and are very capable cards at 1080p.
 
Thanks for all the replies. I am not certain on the PSU but have asked the question so I can get an idea if it is upto the job or not.

I do have a feeling that it might not be the best PSU (most likely high wattage and unknown brand) so will ensure it is checked before he buys a GPU.

I might have to persuade him to try and get a 7950 for about £50-£60 and then find £40 for a PSU as well.
