My parents are looking at getting some new phones, they like the idea of a touch screen because of the size of the screens on offer. I'm unsure about touch screens at this price bracket. Camera of a couple of megapixels I'm sure would be suitable. They are on the Tesco network so either taken into account or unlocked is best.

Does anybody have any experience of phones at this price that could suit?

Thanks in advance.

I would have thought the Orange San Francisco, costs £90 though I think. Can be unlocked very easily from what I read as well so they could use it on their Tesco sims.

Orange San Francisco, tbh you really can't beat it for that price.

Has a nice 3.5" AMOLED screen with a high resolution 400x800 iirc, and also the far superior android OS :D :p

How much will it be for unlocking? Can it be done online?

I think it ranges from 0.99p to £3 and yes it can be done online, just simply get the code emailed to you.

Someone else who has one and has unlocked it will have to confirm.

unlocking is free on the the san francisco.

just type ur phone details in the website and you'll get an unlocked code instantly.

worked for me

Looking at a few videos of this phone and it looks great. Why is it so cheap? What is music like on it as that is one of the key things in a phone I go for. Also what is texting like?

Probably the materials that are used to make it to reduce the cost (although still looks very nice) and skimping on some other parts etc.

It is actually by ZTE and is known as the blade iirc, orange just rebranded it pretty much.

Apparently the speaker is pretty good and I would say that it wouldn't be any worse or better than most of the other mobiles today.

Texting is very easy, you just have a normal stock android QWERTY (if you root and flash) keyboard and when you turn your mobile into landscape mode the keyboard will also turn, so will be much quicker and easier to type.

And if you don't like the keyboard then you can download a number of other ones from the market or from XDA e.g. the HTC_IME which everyone seems to rave about.

Although is this is your first capacitive touch screen mobile, it might take a bit to get use to it.

BTW I don't actually have the san francisco but have been following the thread about it and looking at reviews when it came out, I have the samsung i5700, but it is pretty much the same when it comes to using the keyboard :p

The only thing, which people have complained about is the poor camera and video recording and that is really it tbh.

how is comfortable is writing text messages on the orange sanfransico?

I am really struggling with my HTC Touch HD mini.

I've never had a go on one, but have had a look at the show models in store and the screen is a decent size, coupled with the Android keyboard it'll be nice to 'type' on.

Officially, if you have an existing Orange PAYG sim for at least 3 months (or know someone who has), then give them the details and you'll get the SF for £78.99.

Depending on who you get, they'll either ask you to get the person who has the existing sim to ring them, only ask you for the phone number of the PAYG sim, or just take your word for it and not do any checks at all !

Worth ringing back if you dont get the price you want on the first go.
