£700 spec check please

Looking at buying for around the £700 mark. I have keyboard, mouse, os, speakers, monitor, dvd rw and dvd rom. Just need a new base unit.

Heres what i have come up with. Not sure about the motherboard, went sli to try to future proof but may never use. Opinions/ advice welcome.

All parts are compatible, I don't think you will be able to go SLi comfortably on that PSU if that is an aim but it will certainly be fine for now and may cope with SLi depending on the rest of the load.
 
The case you have suggested doesn't really have a 450W PSU in it from what I can gather (I have one). It states on the website that it is 350W continuous power, 450W max. The box says 450W and the PSU in the case says 350W. So pretty confusing as you can see, but then the labelling of PSUs is generally ambiguous. I really think OCUK should mention this in the description as it is a bit misleading.

I'm sure it'll be fine for what you've suggested, but as spw says, it might not be suitbale for SLi. General consensus suggests that SLi isn't worth it anyway.

Much quicker than the 7800GT (at GTX speeds) & at a very good price.
 
aceshigh, Have you got any links to reviews info on this card. Iv' e read a few things for the 512mb but nothing on the 256mb. I see it is overclocking well in another thread. Do you know how it performs in FEAR? As far as im aware this is one of the most graphically intense games out at the moment. Iv'e read there may be driver issues with it.
If i switch to the ati card, should i change the m/b? i doubt i will go down the sli route if consensus suggests it is not worth it.

My thoughts on SLI are this... you get one card & by the time you want to go SLI later on either the cards arent made anymore or you could sell your original card & get one card that will be next gen & faster than your SLI pair. So SLI generally not worth it.

as for mobo you could get this .. Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AS) £72.79 Including VAT & save some money.
