7200.10 vs 7200.9

The 7200.10 is Seagate's current range of drives, they replaced the 7200.9s although there will still be 7200.9s in the retail channels but I don't think they're being made anymore.

The major difference between the two is the increased data density that Seagate have acheived by implementing perpendicular recording technology. This has two main benefits, firstly the sustained transfer rate is increased because more data passes under the head per revolution. Secondly by squeezing 186Gb onto each platter Seagate were able to create a 750Gb five platter drive within the 3.5"x1" form factor.
