I have 1 of these drives is busy (BSY error: it happens when your HDD enter on a halt state, or BuSY state. In this condition, your HDD will not be recognized by BIOS at POST moment.)state so it won't detect in BIOS.

My question is-
As this is my DOWNLOAD Drive(if you know what I mean) will they try to repair it and see all my software and films? or will they just send a new one?
DO i just puchase a new drive. Its about a year and 6 months old? Thanks

Interesting question. Since my potentially failing 7200.11 also has sensitive information on, I've thought about that myself :p
In the US, they were offering a data recovery scheme, but not in the UK, IIRC. I can't see them going to the bother of recovering the data if they're not going to use it as a customer service gimmick; i.e. restoring it onto a new drive. Unless of course they're feeling cheap and taking out the borked chip with the firmware on, sticking on a new chip and shipping it off to someone else as a B-grade drive, but if they were doing that you'd think they'd return it to you and save themselves the price difference between new and B-grade.
Of course, you could always get out your trusty magnet and attempt to render it unreadable the oldfashioned way. I just don't know how effective that is and you can't tell if it's worked other than by doing it to a working drive at the same time and waiting til that one cops it.

And btw, no I can't be bothered with the hassle of sorting out the firmware myself so it doesn't bork. Call me lazy, and you'd be right - I'd rather just not turn off my pc til kingdom come (UPS for the win :D) and hope for the best!

When I sent my Seagate 7200.10 for repair last year they formatted the drive, so I assume they had a look at it.
