720I or 720p?

The guy who sold me the TV said " My mate was using composite until I switched the lead over for him to HDTV lead and the difference was amazing" Maybe general sales BS or he was right.

If he was using composite and switched to a HD cable then he would notice a difference. If he was using component I doubt he would have noticed much of a difference :)

Composite and component are two different types of cable.

Component = good
Composite = bad

no he was telling the truth. component and composite are two different types of connection. component being far better:)

Then thats the box Im using at the moment on SDTV, only theres 3 leads (red, yellow, white) plugged in, the other 2 leads I don't know what they are for. But from what I understand from the information given in this thread, this cable and the HDTV cable that comes with the 360 elite has not much difference in quality unless you have a very nice, very big tv.

The component cable should look like that.

I think I got my colours wrong in my post before sorry :o

I've tried component vs hdmi on a 26" Hanns G, 32" Samsung and a 40" Sony Bravia V3000 and to be honest on all of them there isn't really any noticeably difference.

HDMI looks a bit better on the v3000 but I wouldn't say it's much of a difference.

If you've got HDMI, may as well use it as it is technically superior I believe. The next best thing is component which is what I believe you've got your 360 connected as :)

The other two leads are for sound :)

That pretty much clears that up then, thank you very much for explaining that to me, the guy in the store could have told me that but I guess maybe he did not even know.

Whilst on the subject. Got my 360 Today and its hooked up to my Dell2407 with Component at the moment.

Can't do 1080p over component, so which is likely to be better 1080i or 720p
(Will likely get a vga cable in the long run to do 1080p)

Ive said this before and I'll say it again as 360 games are natively rendered at 720p the image will be upscaled anyway. Setting 1080p in the console settings uses the 360's scaler and setting at 720p will use the Tv's scaler as the image has to be upscaled to the native res of your TV regardless. In which case you may find the TVs scaler is better thus setting the 360 to 720p gives a better image.

Depends on what you've got it connected to. Absolutely NO difference on my 26" Bravia running 360 at 720p, but no doubt on bigger TVs there is.

Good point. I've only compared them on 37/42" LG, Sony and Samsung TVs and a 720p projector.

Maybe I dont hang around Console Games enough so I dont know whether you're being sarcastic or not?

Oh sorry I said I tested every TV possible and I couldnt find a difference. Now THATS sarcasm for ya. I did say I only tried it on my 26".

There really isn't much of a difference between Component/HDMI on my LG, on my Samsung there was a big difference between Component and VGA though, didn't try HDMI as it doesn't have it.
