Looking for a compact new camera that can do HD video and take decent pictures.

Saw some recommendations for the Panasonic DZ5 in other threads and notice it can be had for around £145.

I have £200 to spend so is that plus accessories i.e. better battery, memory card etc the way to go or are there better cameras out there for the money?

I'll check out the Kodak as the Panny is a bit hard to get a hold of now.

Was considering the TZ6 but that's coming in at around £225 and I'd still have a memory card and battery to get after that.
 
Got the TZ5 for £145.

I didn't really like the look of the Sony and although the video seems to be the best for a compact the price put me off a bit.

Not had a chance to try it yet but i'll give it a go and post back. Might put a small video online if you want?

One thing I wasn't expecting is that you can't record in 720p unless you have an SD card in the camera and I'm waiting on a 16gb to be delivered.

Hi Meths, did the 16gb card work ok? Just curious as i have got one of these brand new for £99 today and think that a nice big card maybe worth ordering?

Was that price online or in the high street? It's an excellent price from what I can see. Best price I can find is £160 on ebay :( I sent you an email to your trust address asking but you may not have seen it.

Google -> Full HD 1080p Camcorder.

I picked one up back when they were £150, there's no brand on them but the video quality is pretty good. Only problem is the mic on mine seems to have a problem where the audio is quite crackly, although it's only happened in my cars so far :confused:

I didn't get a reply actually, I've just checked my spam and there's nothing there either. I'm not surprised they sold out though, it's a great price.

I was looking at the TZ6 originally, but it's not much of an upgrade from the TZ5 it seems, the lens is slightly wider and the sensor has an extra mega pixel, but it doesn't record 720p video so that seems a step down.

A large catalogue based retailer had some on their site for £145, but none were in stock near me and I couldn't order it for home delivery, and the price has gone up in the last day or 2. I'm not having much luck finding a TZ5 it seems, and the TZ6 doesn't seem worth the extra. Might have to try and find a different model or just cough up the extra.

It was their ebay shop that i had it from, they must have been clearing some.
