7300GT GDDR3 Memory discrepancy

Ok, so here's the thing, I bought 2 OCUK 7300GT's GDDR3 from OCUK a few days ago, they arrived very quickly, yippee, and I eagerly unwrapped them to give them a spin.

I picked up the box of the 7300GT, noticed it that the card was made by Palit and then read the specs as labeled on the box.

Oh dear.

Instead of the GDDR3 memory running at the 1200mhz as advertised on the OCUK website, the memory infact runs at 1000 mhz  .

Thinking this might be a mistake, I checked the palit website.

Sure enough, the website stated that the memory of the 256mb 7300GT ran at 1000mhz, while the 128mb version operated at 1200mhz memory speed.

As OCUK doesn't sell the 128mb version, I'm kinda unhappy that they advertise an incorrect memory speed for these cards.

They might want to get the discrepancy fixed  .

Reckon it might be worth sticking the card in anyway and seeing what speeds are detected by say, coolbits? :)

I guess if the memory really is rated at 1000mhz, the memory chips on it would have a code on it that ends with "-20", suggesting 2.0ns mem?

I beleive the OC cards are whatever they can get cheap and so specs change with the manufacturer, the webpage then can be a little behind.

I was in the shop the other day looking at the OC 7300Gt and their stock at the moment is brown boxed and the memory runs at 1000, this is still good value at the price as it is DDR3 memory. Hopefully Gibbo will see this and change the description.

In the end I got the "this week only" 7600GT @£88 :D

Yeah, I just saw those and I am alittle envious!! :D .

To be honest, I only bought these to test an SLi setup, as I already own a X1800XL. The plan is to put the X1800XL out of this comp into my secondary comp which has a X800GT in it currently, so I can use that comp for my 19inch Widescreen TFT.

Hopefully I'll be able to overclock these cards anyway, and as the monitor for my Primary comp is a 17inch CRT, I can't go over 1280x960 rez, so my X1800XL is wasted in it.

My friend has bought one and they dont like to overclock even when volt moded. If he overclocks too far the screen will just go blank and the computer restarts. The bios might have a restriction or something....
