Hi,

I will be getting one of the above hdd soon....

I just wondered how I should set it up, IDE or SATA? Should I partition? If yes how much space for windows and how much for progs?

I am assuming I should only put these two on there?

Altho I also game, so Im kinda confused how best to set it up?

Please advise

Thanks in advance...

Cheers..

You should really know what interface you're buying when you buy a drive. They're all SATA now (Well all the ones on OcUK). I've got 3 partitions on here. One for data, one for applications and one 10gb for windows. I do this purely for easier organisation. It totally depends on what you're going to be doing but at least keep windows on a seperate partition.

So

15g win
15g applications
the rest for games?

thanks for all your help so far....

will i see a major performance diff?

currently the 2 ide drives are 1x seagate and 1x maxtor...

Cant really see the point of partitioning a single hard drive. The head has to spin to and from windows and games partions, slows the process down. A reguarly defragmented hard drive will have just the same benifits imo.

NO

15gb for Win & Apps Combined, then the rest for games, you'll never use 15gb for apps alone!

No they're saying don't bother partitioning. YOU SHOULD PARTION - if only for this reason. If windows does it's normal thing and totally kills itself and you need to reformat you can simply format that single partition rather than losing ALL THE DATA on the disk.

Well you will have to sata it..........as its a sata drive  :p

If its your only drive, do a 15gb partition for window+office program, 30gb for games and the rest as storage

only 30gig for games??? You only have 2 games then??? :p

my FS2004 dir is 28gig (which is small, some people have 60gig installs!!!) And then you have the Valve Steam folder...... 18gig...

i partitioned my drive as 20gig, and 110gig (or what evers remaining) since we talking about 74gig here. Maybe 15gig, then rest to the 2nd partiton

if you already have 2 other drives then it sounds like you going to be using this only for launching programs, so I would go with a 15gb partition for windows/office and leave the rest open for games and additional progs.

westie n insomnia are you guys saying I shouldnt have bothered purchasing a raptor? as I will not see that much of a diff?

No, i have a raptor and i do see a performance increase when loading stuff especially online games, im always the first one on the map in CSS & BF2 (which means you can get the best vehicles on BF2 :D )
