As many others, im going to be installing windows 7 very soon. I have two harddrives I could use as my windows installation drive.

74GB raptor - HDTune results

Average transfer rate 74.7mb/s
Accesstime 8.0ms
Burst rate 105.omb/s

640GB WD - HDTune results

Average transfer rate 77.4mb/s
Access time 17.4ms
Burst rate 121.1mb/s

So which should I choose?

Personally, I'd chose the 640GB.

That's after running a Raptor for a few months and the constant headache of hearing the thing clicking and spinning!

Currently looking to go RAID 0, F3 500GB, myself as my Raptor is currently my bootdrive.

I have a 74gb Raptor as well which I want to replace. I was thinking

2 x 500gb F3s in Raid 0
1 x 1tb F3. Partitioned.
1 x 128 SSD. OS and main Apps and games I often play on.

I can't agree with the price hike on the SSD so wont be getting that, however I dont really want to mess around with partitions on such a big drive for OS use.
... and as for 2 x 500gbs Raided. I only have 5 SATA ports and it would be a waste.

Basically I want a SSD. But I'm going to have to settle for a 1tb.

Shouldn't your 640GB be doing around 100-110mb/sec sequential read (in ATTO)? Or yours is probably a different model to my WD 640GB, which is WD6401AALS
