Hi guys.

To go with my new system, would a 74gig Raptor 10,000rpm drive for windows and programs be worth the extra £?

I do like a fast system!

Yes. Honestly people cannot really comment unless they have had one for themselves. Installations, rar'ing, gaming, windows and programs were all noticeably faster for me when I made the change.

I have an 74Gb Raptor and it is the dogs, but if you can afford it I would go for one of the new 150Gb Raptors.
True enough, my 150GB feels faster still than my 74GB's and almost as quick as the 74GB RAID0 I used to have.

How about running 2x 150GB raptors in RAID0..?
That is just out of most people's price range. Then again, there was one guy (Apex?) on this forum with 4 x 150GB Raptors in RAID0. Nigh on 250MB/s average read IIRC.

I have 2 x 74GB Raptors, had them running in RAID0 for about a year, Average read in HD Tach over 130MB/s, Burst speed over 200MB/s, have now un-installed RAID0 and just have an ordinary Windows XP setup.

So, in answer to your question "Are they worth it"?

YES they are, very much so! ;)
