Still on my way to building my full PC, I've got a week left where I can return parts for a full weekend.
Full spec is in my sig.
Question is, is the 750ti enough?
Now what I'm used to is Xbox One levels of performance. I know the "is it enough" is difficult to quantify so maybe a better question is:
What are the limits of the 750ti, what can I expect to do and not do with this card?
Over the £120 750ti how much should I expect to spend to notice a significant improvement and boost in capability? Or should I just keep it?

If budget isnt that much of an issue i would just swap out the 750ti for a GTX 970, you pay double but get over double the performance. Take a look here on anandtech to compare

Another option is the 390 from amd which shares the same performance level and price as the 970. Overall i think you would get a much more pleasant experience if you went this way as the 750ti is pretty pants considering the rest of your system. Its like giving a pro football player wooden shoes to play in..

The Nano is the best deal in its performance tier right now (especially once overclocked) and would certainly be a hefty upgrade over a 750 Ti. If you have the money to spare, it's a good choice.

In general I'm more inclined to go Nvidia (probably because being blasted with their adverts on games I used to play) but I think an AMD card wouldn't be a bad choice because my MB supports crossfire but not SLI so maybe an Tastey future upgrade if I save for a second one

Other question is why do AMD have a much lower memory clock than the Nvidia options?
AMD cards generally have a wider memory bus. For example, the GTX 970 has a 256-bit memory bus, whilst the R9 390 has a 512-bit bus. Essentially, doubling the memory bus doubles the memory bandwidth, assuming the memory chips are running at the same speed. So despite the clock speed deficit, the 390 has a lot more memory bandwidth than the 970. The Nano uses HBM instead of GDDR5 and has a 4096-bit bus, which is why the clock speed on the memory can be so low.

Recent reviews claimed that the 750ti was unable to provide console levels of performance and quality in Rise of the Tomb Raider so I suppose it is a borderline card nowadays.

The Nano is more powerful than either of them. It's a straight step up on the AMD side (two steps up if you overclock it, since it's a fully-enabled Fiji chip, whereas the non-X Fury is cut down) and generally beats the GTX 980 on the Nvidia side, let alone the 970.

Just ordered the nano, comign by 12 tomorrow. Should have everything in one piece tomorrow aternoon! Now just hoping everything works.

gtx 950 2gb unless you can find a 4gb or a 4gb 960 if a 970 not optional unless you got a used one as they can be grabbed for under £200
