75hz 4K monitors over display port. Why not?

A 1080 Ti will handily exceed 60 fps in many modern games with quality cranked.
It's not guaranteed that it won't drop below 60 in all of them, as well as in titles that are yet to be released. It would make buying a > 60FPS 4k monitor that has been specially developed and you've paid extra for pretty moot if you can't maintain above 60 at all times. What I'm saying is you'd need 2x 1080s to be confident that it won't drop below 60 in the present and medium term.

So what? There are many games which do get a solid 60 fps. And you have GSync and Freesync for those that don't. Don't let the Perfect get in the way of the Good Enough. People change their GPUs much more frequently than their monitors so buying a high-refresh rate 4K monitor makes a lot of sense. When the next GPU comes along, buy that and even more of your games will hit 60 fps.

Two of my favourite games, Far Cry (the original one) and Borderlands 2, are old. I run them with all details cranked and get well over 60 fps at 4K in both. Indeed I think I measured over 180 fps in Far Cry. I could probably play that at 8K. Borderlands 2 maintains over 60 fps even in the most complex and crowded scenes.
