Hey everyone,

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a 20" or larger screen that does 75hz at native resolution? Say 1680x1050?

I have a 19" Viewsonic VA1926W that does 75hz at 1440x900 and it is great but i would like something a bit bigger whilst retaining the smoothness of 75hz as opposed to 60hz.

I have a 5850 and i'm only using 1440x900 lol so i need something bigger.

Thanks for any help.

The only current monitors known not to be fixed at 60/120Hz (can do different rates without dropping or doubling frames) are the Dell 2209WA and the NEC EA231WMI.

Not sure if anyone tested the 120Hz screens for other rates, but I assume they're stuck at 120Hz (60 with double frames).

The Samsung Navy series can also support 75Hz at native resolution without skipping frames. I'm sure a handful of other monitors can, too. The "smoothness" of 75Hz vs 60Hz (i.e. 60fps max vs. 75fps max on the front buffer) is a very minor consideration compared to factors such as input lag and pixel response time. I wouldn't look too much into it, and if it means a lot to you and you have the budget you should go for a 120Hz screen. It isn't just the fact that they can allow 120fps to be drawn without artifacting that is attractive, the pixel response time and input lag of these screens is also very low, generally.

If the game supports it properly then a constant 60fps with vsync and triple buffering offers a very smooth experience.

There are only 2-3 panels that truly support 75Hz (that are under 10 grand)... I certaintly reccomend getting the samsung 2233rz for gaming.

I'm pretty sure I've read ati drivers still don't work properly with 120hz.

Is this wrong then? I'm pretty sure I read just the other day on these very forums someone say something about the latest beta drivers still not fixing the problem with 120hz monitors. Not much point you all recomending him spend £200 on something that isn't going to work.

True if he is using ATI, 120Hz is one thing thats a bit dodgy on them, along with multimonitor.

Atleast multimonitor has a work around though, dunno if 120hz does. I have to admit I have never been a fanboy but I can see why people slate ati for their drivers and I've only had mine a week.

There is entirely nothing wrong with 120hz, its JUST the idle speeds being too low, you get the flickering you would get with 2 screens at 60hz when you use a 120hz screen, the fix, available to ANYONE who can be bothered to go into their drivers and make a profile and change the default 2d speed, has been do-able from the first day of release.

Or you can use gpu clock tool/afterburner or anything else to set higher speeds, its a complete non issue except to those who insist on waiting for a driver fix for something they can fix themselves in about 20 seconds.

Nvidia have EXACTLY the same problem with their 480gtx, its why with a 120hz screen or using dual screens it will automatically set far higher 2d speeds, basically the full 3d speed and almost full 3d temp and power to go with them. 5xxx series side you just need to set 400/900 and normal low 2d voltage meaning quite a lot lower power usage.

Oh it's the same issue as with the multi monitors? Well then it's not really a problem. Why can't they just make it so the 2d profile doesn't set the clock so low by default? Instead of making me do it and then have to apply the profile everytime I boot my pc.
