Im after a decent cooler for my e6750, currently have it overclocked to 3ghz but i want to push it furthur, just worried a bit by the temps. I have an akasa 965 and running prime i get about 51-55C (not to sure if this is to hot or not)

Heres CPU-Z

Id be willing to spend max £30 on a cooler

is that 51-55 on both cores?

and i realise its a lot more than you have to spend but i realy cant sell the corsair h50 enough its le magic

both cores yes, i have looked at the h50 it is tempting since it supports the newer sockets as well.

Hiya. Just to throw this in the mix. Ive just swapped out a Arctic Freezer pro 7 on my qx6700 oced to 3.4 and replaced it with the Corsair h50. Its the best thing I have done. It dropped my idle temps down 7 degrees to 27 and maxed out playing crysis at 3.6 oced its touching 52 degs. Its great. Highly recommended. The freezer pro was excellent too and for around £20 you cant go wrong, The H50 is a bit more expensive yea but the benefit is huge.

Getting drawn to the h50 at the mo. Only thing i read that you have to reverse your fans since the radiator is an intake fan or something?

Yea you have to, well thats what corsair advise. I did. It didnt take to long and I made the radiator have a push pull set up. Im lucky in that I have alarge case so I have all fans sucking in cold air now and I vent it out the top via a huge 250mm fan. Temps are real low across all components with this set up. Im chuffed to be honest cos I was gonna go new rig i7 and im gonna stick with what I have for now.

I know it would probally be better if i posted this in the case section. But what cases under £100 would you recommend to use with the H50?

Hmm quite nice will look into them :) Was also looking at the HAF 992 and also the Antec 902

Only my opinion... But I would stear clear of the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2.

The push pins with this are VERY weak (NB. these are NOT standard Intel type push pins) and again in my opinion, would not stand up to being removed and re-fitted too many times. Loads of post about this if you dig around (not on this site though). I would recommend anyone thinking about buying one, having a look at Arctic's WEB site for the fitting guide for this and you will see what I mean. I initially bought one and sent it straight back under the Distance Selling Regulation and I'm not the only one that's done this by all accounts.

Though I suspect there are loads of folks out there quite happy with theirs. Everyone entitled to their opinion of course.

Corsair H50, or Noctua NH-U12P are the way to go. Though both are I suppose over budget for you. But you basically get what you pay for (usually).

Though quite happy with my Zalman 9500.

You might be right with the Arctic Mikeo, but I was fortunate enough to only have to place it the one time. Still a damn good cooler for the price but I do agree the push pins were femmer when I removed it this morning. Never used the Zalman is it any good?

I agree about the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro being a good cooler. Well the revision 1 was! The rev. 1 had standard Intel push pins and while these are not great for a heavier cooler, they coped Ok. With the rev. 2, they tried to make a generic attachment that would suit a number of different socket types and in doing this, I think they made a mistake! I also use an Arctic alpine 7 in another PC and this is fine but not too suitable if doing much overclocking. I did write a review of this for OcUK but they decided not to print it, probably because I only gave it "one star". On reflection, it was maybe worth 3/4 stars, as long as not wanting to re-fit it too many times (like more than once).

As to the Zalman 9500. It's a great cooler and at OcUK's price, a steal (most sites still selling it at around £30). At stock, my Q9650 runs at 25/26C idle and mid 40's under load (Intel burn test). Though I do have reasonable airflow in my case. Should point out it does require a backplate (so a mobo out job). But any decent cooler due to it's weight really should have one anyway (in my opinion). Attaching the fan to the bracket is pretty easy, but best to do when mobo out of case. Though you can fit it when the mobo is in the case. I had to re-seat HSF as first time round I don't think that I had applied the TIM very well (and this was done with mobo in case).

If thinking about any cooler, I would always recommend checking the manufacturers WEB site and looking at the fitting instructions, there is usually a PDF there somewhere. The fitting in my opinion, is quite often where a number of coolers fall down.

If interested in the Zalman 9500, search OcUK's forums. I started a thread and posted a couple of pictures.

Think you would struggle to beat the Zalman in the under £30 category.
