780 or 780ti

Hmm although the 780ti is a lot more than the gtx 780 it would last me in the long run. But you guys think that if i get a reference 780ti i should put a waterblock on it ? otherwise it's not worth it?

No mate, if you get a reference 290x/290, I would want to put a waterblock on it but the 780/780Ti cooler is reasonably quiet. The 780 has custom coolers (like the windforce x3), which are near silent even under load.

Do you think the 780ti is worth the extra £180? also i currently run a 1680x1050 monitor but i'm holding on upgrading because i want to get a G-Sync monitor.

Depends which 780 you are getting (e.g. MSI lightnings will be incredibly close to the 780ti cards but the price difference won't be). I'd agree with Greg, the WF 780 is great and clocks well. Between that and the 780ti I doubt you will see more than 5-10fps difference in games.

If you bench and must have the latest and best, you know what you need to get ;).

780 non-TI or wait for a 290 with 3rd party cooler.

If you want the card now, 780 is the only option at the high-end if you value your hearing. The stock cooler even allows for very decent overclocks without becoming anywhere near as loud or hot as a stock 290/290X. The 780 cooler is probably the best reference design evey made. The 290's cooler is at the other end of the scale.

First thing would be to upgrade your monitor. Once you have done this then have a look around to see what is on offer. Prices and deals change all the time, in a months time everything could be different.

Would quite like to upgrade my monitor but i've been holding onto it because nvidia g-sync imo is a game changer and i really like the idea.

Don't see the point in buying a high end card for monitor that's not expected for quite a while yet. Honestly if I were in your shoes and you really want to hold out for a Gsync screen I would get a cheapish second hand card now such as 7950/670 which will be more than enough to max everything at your current resolution then once you have a monitor decide on a new gpu. Who knows what will be releaswd next year.

Hmm although from what i've seen the performance difference between 1680x1050 and 1080p isnt really that much.

I could just buy a 1080p monitor now and then use it as a secondary when i get a g sync monitor?

The 290 is a cracking card but as is, I would want a better cooler or at least a quieter cooler. Not sure when parteners will be bringing them out but it was hinted at 6-8 weeks when the 290X was launched and will be the same for the 290 Pro.

I like the 290X as well but with the 780 being cheaper and free games, that to me wins that battle.

Bottom line is. If buying now, grab the 780 or if you are happy to wait, grab the 290 pro.

My thoughts on it anyway :)

This^ If you are getting a G-sync monitor then an Nvidia card is the way to go.
I do like AMD's newbies though and I'm sure they will be a little better when they get decent coolers. The 780 would be my choice right now.

Very happy with my 780 windforce ver2.0 , boosts to 1254 core and 7ghz memory without overvolting.
This should take it to around stock 780ti performance.
Runs cool and quiet.
Could save the 180 and put it towards another 780 if 1 starts to struggle.

Yea think i'm def getting the 780,
for £555 i can get GTX 780 WF, Samsung Evo 250gb and BF4
and for £570 i can get a 780ti

One last thing, do you reckon the 780 will drop again when the 290x and 290 after market coolers release because i would order the 780 now but i'm wondering if another price drop will happen.
