780 ti ghz edition no different to old 470

I have similar. I used to run it at 4GHZ, but see my previous post. Loaded that setup from the BIOS, it BSOD'd. Not used it in a few months, needs sorting out I guess!

Keep trying, start off by running lower Memory and North Bridge Multiplies.

I find my Memory modules don't like running to high and with the NB at anything over 3.2Ghz it BSOD. also set just a tiny bit more volts on everything.

start from scratch, play with it, forget what you think the right settings are. you will get it to work.

Oh, my CPU is an i7 930.

100fps? I get around 30 max.

Strange, don't get me wrong, the FPS do drop in towns etc, but not to 30fps, think the lowest i've seen is 42 perhaps.

If i play online, as soon as it's a decent server i normally get around 70-80fps averages, even when recording.

Here's a vid i made a while ago, full server, max settings, at night too where i find the fps are a little lower due to the dynamic lights etc.

All i have disabled is SSAO, the latest Arma 3 build allows you to use HDAO with i do and now performance cost.

What cpu and board is it that you have?

I5 760, asus p7p55d-e. I just used the built in BIOS auto overclock thing, got it to 3.3 ghz and it's been fine. Playing Arma 3. Obviously need to go manual for higher. I remember playing with the blck multiplier and some bus. Seeing if stable with a test, if not, increase the voltage a notch and repeat. I need a google refresh.

Changing graphics as I've said, doesn't really make any difference to fps, maybe 2 or 3 at most. So I may as well go ultra!

1080p.

FPS is only 40-60 in the Wildstar beta as well. That's hardly graphically intensive. Then again, it is beta. Probably a lot of optimisation to be done.

@ Scotty123

RAM:

EMP: Enabled, Manual.
DRam Timing: Manual. 9-9-9-24
RAM Volts: 1.61v
RAM Multi: x8
RAM speed is ~1500Mhz (Standard Corsair RAM)

CPU:

CPU Core volts: +10mv
VRoop: No
CPU VTT (UnCore) +140mv, i don't have a readout for what it actually is, default is +180mv, i set it lower to help with Temps.
CPU Turbo: No
BcLock (FSB) 186Mhz
CPU Multi: x21. that will give you 3.9Ghz
QPI: Auto
CPU Uncore Multi: x18. that will give you 3.3Ghz on the North Bridge, try it at 16x, it maybe a little high.

i5 760 should do 4ghz with ease and don't be scared I've ran my i5 750 for years on 1.43 volts set in bios, 1.351 vtt.

The maximum spec is 1.45 volts cpu vcore so as long as temps are okay don't fear using 1.43 volts or less to achieve 4 - 4.2ghz.

I'd start with 1.351 vtt and 1.43 volts and go for 4.1 ghz and work backwards dropping the cpu vcore only down until your unstable then bung it back up 2 notch to the stable point.

It's important you use 1.351 vtt I would say as it can cause instability if left lower or on auto.

The quickest best thing to test stability is intel burn test but be careful in general it's normally +10c above prime 95 load temps.

50 passes of intel burn test on highest is seems rock solid to me more reliable than prime 95, if it's unstable then IBT normally finds it pretty quick.

I've managed to get 3.8 ghz. Don't really want to up the voltage on the core anymore as running intel burn test will give around 80 degrees max. Arma is still around 20 - 30 fps ish. Was expecting more of a gain! Maybe I can overclock more without changing the main cpu voltage, hence not going much past 80.

Have you tried just a fresh install?

Of Windows? I think it's not necessary - I'm getting good fps in other games, and see Heaven benchmarks I posted. We decided Arma was being CPU limited so I overclocked a bit.

Just received my 780 ti Ghz edition today. Replaced my 470, installed latest Geforce drivers and loaded up Arma 3. There seems to be no difference! I had everything on low before, and about 20-30fps. Same here. I put everything on high and had about 10-15 fps .

It's as if I never replaced the card! Strange..

ARMA 3 is very CPU limited with the large island and simulation aspects. It is not just you. My 780Ti and my friend's overclocked 290x both run around 40fps. Overclocking my CPU from 3.5 to 4.5 ghz helped a bit (we both have i7 CPUs.) You can tell it isn't your GPU as you can change from min to max AA (FXAA and MSAA) and get about the same fps.

[Read all the other replies. Seems they agree. Probably best looking for a tweak guide for ARMA 3 to optimise game settings if you don't want to push the i5 any further. Not worth running an unstable OC that causes crashes every hour - like my friend had trying to push up to 4.8ghz to get more fps. Also make sure the guide is for your specific motherboard (not just the right CPU), ivybridge or sandybridge makes a difference too, and sometimes you will find you are lucky / unlucky with a chip and mobo that everyone else can clock to a great speed but your will not (had this last year).

Good luck, and post in the overclocking forum for the CPU - specifically in the section for Ask 8 Pack - he is like the Stig of overclocking and he works here]
