7800 and 7900 - difference ?

The 7900 series has less transistors and runs cooler as well as having higher clock speeds. They also don't work, if the amount of faulty 7900GTXs and GTs is anything to go by. If you're upgrading steer well clear of them and go for an ATI X1900 instead.

You should be alright with the 7950, I haven't seen any issues with them yet. It's the 7900 series that are broken I think. Also I don't think you need an SLi motherboard for the GX2, can anyone confirm this?

With a properly configured SBIOS, the NVIDIA® GeForce® 7950 GX2 will work with any PCI Express-compliant motherboard. Please see www.nvidia.com/GX2 for a list of compatible motherboards and SBIOS that have been tested by NVIDIA.

Though i thought the two cores were connected using some form of SLi, but i could be wrong

It does connect via SLI. but I think they did something so it works in non SLI motherboards....

Havent seen anyone confirm whether this will work in non-sli motherboards yet
:\

My 7900GT works lovely :)

yea my motherboard is not on the list (boohoo), Ive just installed the latest BIOS, set the jumpers to normal/single mode instead of SLI and Windows wont boot !

before I installed the latest BIOS it worked but only on 1 card (GPU) which gave less performance than my 7800GTX SLI setup did.

Yeah 7900's have got a built in kill switch, over time they die, could be seconds/hrs/minutes etc.... trouble is they don't say on the box how long the kill switch has been activated to last for, so you have to take a chance, and hopefully you' get one thats set to die after a week instead of a day or a couple of minutes.

As well as all the other differances theres also 100. :p
