without vmods and another cooler this card is a pretty poor clocker
IIRC volt modding a 7800GT requires soldering and extra wires etc.
If you don't have a clue about it I wouldn't risk it tbh. Not for the gain you will receive. (gaming wise you won't notice enough of a difference to risk killing your card).
I am not 100% on this but there may be modified bios's which allow for greater voltages as well but like I have put I am not 100% certain.

I have that card and have looked at 7800GT reviews to see how far they could overclock their card and got an average of 483/1188 out of 15 reviews.
My card autodetects to 490/1120 but 490Mhz gives me glitches in F.E.A.R. so lowered it to 480Mhz, but I can clock the memory to 1160Mhz

There are two ways for a core volt mod. BIOS and physical, physical allows more control because BIOS allows only +0.1v. I did mine through BIOS. I made a post on it on these forums, got it from someone called Pyro or something off of another forum.

For the RAM i used a pencil mod which can be found at the bottom half of this article.

When i get back home ill get a screen shot of the "detect optimal frequencies for my 7800gt. Puts it to something like 517mhz / 1226mhz. However complete artifcting. Only just manages 500/1200.
Nightstalker dont forget the card is already heavily overclocked out of the box and any more out of it is pretty good really.

465/1100 anymore and get artifacting and freezes
