Hello!

I would like to ask you for help on which processor cooling to use for my Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor.
My motherboard is an Asus B650E-E and the memory is G.SKILL 32GB KIT DDR5 6000MHz CL30 Trident Z5 NEO RGB

My goal is to choose a quiet, but at the same time effective cooling.
The following cooling systems are the ones I would like to choose from:

  • Artic Liquid Freezer II 360
  • Deepcool LS720 SE 360mm

  • be quiet! DARK ROCK PRO 5
  • Deepcool AK620 Digital 120mm
  • Deepcool ASSASSIN IV
  • Noctua NH-D15S

My computer case is a Corsair 5000D Airflow.

In the case of AIOs, I am afraid of leakage, in the case of air cooling, of the heavy weight :D

What do you think air cooling can do to the cooling performance provided by AIOs?
What should I pay attention to?

Thank you very much!

I reused my Corsair H100X on mine and it dosent get above 75C full load. Now ive set the fan curve in the BIOS using Q fan its pretty quiet as well.

For air cooling i considered the Peerless assassin.

I have a Noctua NH-D15 (carried forward from my 6700k build, it's the dual fan version of the NH-D15S). My 7800X3D idles around 45C and I haven't seen it go above 76C (this is over the last 2 months so will have to see how it goes in the summer).

Number one I've never had an AIO leak and I've installed and used many.

I use an ITX NR200P MAX case with a top mounted 280mm AIO and it's more than adequate to cool the 7800X3D. Any decent twin tower cooler would be plenty and with some tweaks you could run a single tower but if you have the space twin towers look better!

If you're not used to seeing 80C+ temps under load which is common on 7xxx series AMD CPUs you can make some efficiency tweaks like the below settings.

To tweak my 7800X3D I set the Platform Thermal Throttle Limit to 75C in the BIOS. Then set the Curve Optimiser to -30 which lowers power, temps and raises the processor speed from 4850MHz to the 5050 MHz hardware limit more often. Don't expect miracles as the 7800X3D is very limited by it's voltage and 5050MHz lock but maybe on a hot day it'll reduce thermal throttling and run 150-200MHz in games etc.

Excuse my lack of exact technical correctness, but apparently they have some sort of heat sink inbuilt which causes the high temperatures from the ccd, whatever that is so while the power consumption is relatively low the package temperature appears high and there’s not a lot that can be done about that. As long as it stays below 89C it isn’t a problem.

Made sense to me and yes the 7800X3D runs around 80W under load which is great for it's performance. Only negative compared to the Intel CPUs is the somewhat high idle power of around ~25W.

The Arctic may be a tight fit on the top. Doable, as tou can install the fans “outside” the case, between the removable panel on the top and the top of the case. Another option would be either front or side as intake.
For simplicity and without worrying about pump noise, Thermalright Phantom Spirit or Phantom Spirit Evo. More than enough for the 7800x3D.
Using it with the Fractal North and the fans are set to 35% up to 70C. 40% up to 75C. 45% up to 80C and finally 60% up to 85C. Every benchmark I’ve run, never went past 75C. Gaming benchmarks barely high 60s. Using 3 T30s as front intake and 3 x T30s as exhaust. Not needed, but s bungle was cheaper so why not. All you really need as top exhaust is the far end towards the rear of the case at low rpm to remove residual heat, and an exhaust at the rear slightly higher rpm than the top. Depending on which and how many fans you’ll be using, we may be able to give you a more accurate recommendation.
One fan that I can highly recommend is the Thermalright TL-B12. Very good fan, but no RGB. If you are happy with minimal RGB, the TL-K12 that are supplied with the Evo version of the Phantom Spitit are pretty much as good.
Going for Noctua or T30s, you’ll get better acoustics and performance, but pay dearly for it. As the 5000d can brute force airflow with a lot of fans installed, I wouldn’t be tempted to use expensive fans, unless you want to.
Even going with P12, if you populate front and side as intake, let’s say 700-800 rpm, they’ll be far from the humming range, yet offering good airflow.

I'm using a Deepcool AG500 with my 7800X3D/Asus B650E Gaming E combo, works fine and quiet, no temp issues, does not block ram slots.

I'd throw my vote in for the Artic Liquid Freezer II 360 here as well. If you are worried about space you could always go for the 280, but I don't see it being an issue with a case that size? I have a 280mm one inside an NR200 and it runs like a dream. It's silent most of the time too, only kicking up if I'm maxing out all cores. Just make sure to check the website for motherboard compatibility before you buy it, or make sure you ask for the latest revision when you hit order as you can remove a cover on the CPU block with the latest ones in-case of issues with other heatsinks.

yes at full RPM, but a stock cooler and leaf blower will also, where did you get that info from>?
Well, no, noise normalised with stock fans its already very close to 360 aios, there is only so much you can do with ihs, bare die would be completely different story of course

so that shows what, we should buy a silver soul?
where are the big GOOD 360's?

and the SS is only £27 defo 100% buy that

also i just realisted to said buy a £30 cooler and put £40's work of fans on it to match AIO performance so £70 to match performance what the SS for £27 look to smash them
