7850 Crossfire

I will be putting it in upside down. That much is certain.

That's the right way up though, my case has an inverted motherboard tray ;)

In the majority of cases, getting crossfire working is as simple as:

1. install card, attach crossfire bridge

2. boot up, and check it's enabled in CCC - if not, enable it.

3. Sometimes, you need to uninstall drivers and reinstall them to get the second card detected. I had to do that once, after messing around with monitor connections in abig way.

Before you install the second card, run a couple of games that have built-in benchmarks (like Dirt 2/3, alien vs predator, etc.) and make a note of the scores. Then do it again after and compare scores.

Also, one thing I find helpful. You can enable an AMD crossfire icon in games. When crossfire is running, the icon appears; when it's not running properly, or a rare game doesn't support crossfire, it doesn't appear.

You can activate this icon by rightclicking on catalyst's system tray icon and selecting like so:

Thanks for that.

Crossfire worked for me straight out of the box. I already had one 7850 installed, I just put the other one in and connected them with the ribbon, booted up and there we have it. CCC picked it up straight away.

Problem is I have no games! To be honest, I use my PC for work more than anything. I have two 1920x1020 27" monitors though and it's likely I'm getting a third, so started thinking eyefinity and then crossfire for a little light gaming on a Friday afternoon...

Just installed Steam and played the Sniper Elite V2 Demo. I can't tell the difference between crossfired or not! Smooth on both with settings full on. Need to go eyefinity to see the benefits I reckon at least with that game.

You'll find that's true with a lot of games, until you go eyefinity :)
Another tip: make sure to install the latest Catalyst Application Profile, which adds updated crossfire profiles for games. If you haven't done this yet, you might not be seeing the full benefit of your setup.
