Hi guys,

I recently bought the Sapphire 7850 OC because it was on sale and for the same price as the non-OC version.

I am using Asus GPU Tweak to overclock, and I am testing it using Unigine Heaven.

I was wondering what setups you have for this card, mine is

Gpu Clock- 1170 MHz
Mem- 1450MHZ
Voltage- 1.18V

For some reason I can't get it to 1200Mhz, even when bumping up to 1.2v. It crashes midway through Heaven.

Also, from what I have seen, nearly 1.2v for that speed seems a bit much. Is this normal? Apparently the maximum rated for safety is 1.25v.

Thanks,

Chris

Overclocking is pot luck, i have a Gigabyte 7870, i bought it A, because of the cooler and UK RMA, and B, because consistently i was seeing people get ridicules overclocks with them, i even paid £240 for it which even at the time was over the odds compared with all the others.

So when i got it, low and behold it overclocks like a pig, i have seen people left right and centre get 1200Mhz, even 1250Mhz on stock volts and way over 1300Mhz overvolted.

I can't even get mine to 1250Mhz @ 1.3v which is as high as it will go, on stock volts its only fully stable at 1140Mhz.

so so much for that....

1170Mhz is not bad at all for a 7850, i have seen very few of them get to 1200Mhz stable.

Thats pretty good from what I've seen, as long as the temps are in check, bump up the voltage a bit more and keep going!

Your 7850 isn't using a 7870 pcb so maximum voltage will be limited to 1.225v
Anyway my housemates 7850 dual x runs at exactly the same clocks and v-core as you, 1175 1450 is respectable and at that v-core will last a long time with max temps at 63c.. Might be worth knocking your ram down to 1375 in heaven and finding your max core speed first before finding the max memory speed

Ah ok, if it is good then I am happy with it.

I just had to knock the core down to 1150, because it BSOD's when heavy gaming.

It is just a little disappointing because I have heard of people getting 1200mhz core and 1500 mem on 1.1v-1.15v.

I am not going to push it past 1.2v (unless someone can convince me), which it is sitting on now, even though it would still be under warranty under 1.25, right?

I have the non-oc Sapphire 7850 and I run mine at
Core: 1150mhz
Mem: 1400mhz
Volts: 1.165v

It won't go any higher than that. Even with 1.25v

They probably had the earlier cards, these latest cards from both amd and nvidia are somewhat restricted to overclocking. 1150core clock is pretty decent.

I agree 1150 is a decent speed. It dimishing returns as you go for the higher clock. It takes way more volts.

I tried 1200 core at 6000 mem with 20% power target and 1.175v and it crashed at stage 2 on heaven. I am not wanting it to go above the 1.25v recommendation, for warranty reasons.

By the way, the setup on heaven is

Tess- Moderate
Shader- High
Anisotropy- 4x
Stereo 3d- Dis
Mulitmonitor- No
AntiAliasing - 8x
Fullscreen-Yes
Res- 1920x1080

If anyone has the time, take a quick look at this. This guy must have got the cream of the crop:

I just looked, and his is the VTX one. That was 10 quid cheaper than the sapphire one I went for.

Hi guys.

What kind of voltages can I bring it up to? Can I put it at 1.25v and the power management to 0% to make sure that it does not go over that? That might allow some room for overclocking.

Thanks,

Chris
