had a look at the 2 cards and I would say its pretty possible to at least achieve similar results on an OC 7850 vs a stock 7870. Both have the same amount of VRAM so you wouldnt see much performace loss between the 2 on higher resolutions I guess. Seems like the core can be boosted to around 1050Mhz on the 5850.

How far can a reference 570 overclock to can it beat a 580 because that's what I was going to buy a second hand 580 until I realised second hand is a dodgy way to go.

I would imagine you'd get about 90% of a stock 580 performance on an OC 570. Remembering aswell that 580 has a bit more vram even on the 1.5gb editions.
